When you say non-genuine spark plugs can you elaborate? VW do not make their own spark plugs and neither do any other car manufacturer that i know of. Companies like NGK and Bosch who specialise in spark plugs manufacture them.

VW use Bosch for their ECU's and other computer systems in these cars, so it makes sense that Bosch also supply the spark plugs too.

I have changed my stock spark plugs and ignition coils (2011 Golf R) and although the spark plugs had a VW AG stamp on them, they also had Bosch stamped on them too. They are manufactured by Bosch. So they had VW AG stamped on one side of the spark plug, and Bosch stamped on the other side. See pics below.

I think you mentioned in a previous post that only one ignition coil was replaced last time you had a misfire.....and that this time they replaced all four of them? Is that correct? They should have just changed all four of them to begin with - although this is out of your control of course. Good to hear it's fixed though.

Both pics below are showing the same spark plug (from my car) just showing the VW stamp on one side and the Bosch stamp on the other side.

The spark plugs that they gave back to me (I asked for them so I could see myself so I assume they gave me the ones they took out) were actually Denso ones and you are right they were replaced with Bosch ones.

I am pretty sure they only replaced the other 3 injector coils this time as the problem was not in the same cylinder as last time. So they have replaced all 4 now but only 3 during the last visit.

Further to this my service invoice (from a site sponsor who for now will remain nameless) does say they have given me Bosch spark plugs but the dealer have me Denso ones supposedly out of my car. Go figure? Will update when I find out more.

Hmmm seems that the Denso plugs might have been the culprit then. Nothing wrong with the Denso brand, but perhaps they were the wrong plugs (wrong type altogether / wrong heat range / wrong plug gap etc). Do you have a part number off them?

The ignition coils are prone to failing on these cars anyway so at least you have a full new set of them just as your warranty finishes - you shouldn't have to worry about them for a few more years now.

PS - i'd be letting the "site sponsor" who serviced your car last know about the issues caused by these plugs and see if at the very least you can get an apology and a few dollars refunded as the plugs you paid for are no good.

Yeh I did contact them and after a bit of to and froing they have agreed to refund the money I paid for the plugs if I bring them back. Fair enough I guess.

The Denso part no. appears to be IK20.

But sadly not true actually the other way round in the Mk5,R and Scirocco's the flash counter is still incremented once the ECU has been returned to stock. The Bluefin on the other had does now reset the counter but only on this ECU type (MED9) so not the Mk6 GTI's

I'm checking it myself again on the proper VW gear shortly because I still don't believe it - might come in very handy for all
