    Short Shifter Options

I'm a big fan of short shifters and have put the Diesel Geek shifter into my last two Golfs and have been very very happy

This hit my inbox this morning:
    403 Forbidden

Which is the alternative to this:
VW Short shifter for 6 speed Golf, GTI, Jetta, GLI, Passat, Audi TT and more. 30% reduction in both directions!

NOTE: These shifters are for the MQ350 box found in the higher spec models, if you have a MQ250 you need this one:
VW short shift kit for MK5 5 speed

I like the idea of all the flexibility in the ECS unit over the fixed nature of the Diesel Geek, although sadly I can't test that out since I have the MQ250 and I don't believe there is an ECS option for that. One thing I find a little disappointing in the ECS instructions is no mention of how to reset the home position, even though it's mentioned on the product page that it might be required.

This video if for a Diesel Geek install and if you jump to about 3:50 is shows how to lock everything into the home position:

(there is another video that doesn't appear to be online anymore that showed two different locking mechanisms, a button and a lever, but they essentially lock down the same).

Has anyone used the ECS shifter and care to comment on the adjustability??

    Hi mate,

I've had both shifters and the ECS is really good if you like a super short and slick shift but can be hard to get into neutral as it just wants to swing straight through to the next gear. Very nice to drive with.

The dieselgeek is really nice as well, the cable ends do make a difference as well. Obviously no adjustability but is setup really well for joe average.

Pretty much, do you like to fiddle with adjustments? The ECS is for you. If not, go for the Dieselgeek.

    Cheers,

The home position lever is independent of the shifter. You simply press down on the shifter unit and lock the lever on the side of the gearbox (below the shifter unit) in place.
