Not one of my close friends are "car people".

Not one has mentioned anything about the current VW situation. Not even my wife.

On most peoples radar this isn't even a blip.

You don't have to be a car person. EVERYONE can used Google and the search results are in there for good. You read about a recall and you stay away from all VW cars because you are not a car person and don't understand that it's not all VW. Damage done !!!

Try polling all you 'not car people' close friends tonight after a day when Sunrise, Today, A Current Affair, Today Tonight and 7:30 run their stories. Not to mention every newspaper in the land.

I put it to you that the people who are not 'car people' are the very ones that will react most to this news item.

But then VW apoligists will continue to hold their heads in the sand and their hands in their wallet.

I don't think you guys get it. These people don't even google when they buy a car. People like us (enthusiasts) make up a very small % of the car buying community. VW know this & that is why they behave the way they do.

I have no idea why you think I'm a VW apologist. I've made my views about VW quite clear in the past. /looks at post count of 34 & 36... right

    I have a manual R.

It's unlikely to appeal to people who aren't in to cars.

Those into cars will know that there have been no real issues with this engine/gearbox combo.

I'm so bored with the reliability I'm thinking of getting an Alfa.
    Audi S3. Sold
    Golf R. Sold
    Citroen DS3 Dsport. Sold
    2016 Skoda Octavia RS Wagon.

No Brad, it's you that doesn't get it. Your polling sample is insignificant in the scheme of things. Really, close friends and your wife.

The mainstream press is on to VW. They are reporting the cars as unreliable and now unsafe. I goggled it but that is just a snappy way of seeing what is now on tv and in the papers. Hushed whisperings on 'enthusiast' websites was yesterday. Tonight Grandma and Grandpa will watch as the events that led to the tragic death of a motorist in Melbourne play out on telly. The same people will be getting a nice letter from VWA. The story has broken.

Please, widen your sample group and become enlightened.

    LOL

My friend just bought a Quattro Verde Giulietta. Her 2nd alfa. The first one was pretty good - no worse than my Octavia has been.

How about you take the time to read some of my other posts & enlighten yourself as to my general opinion of VW-AUS & how they treat their customers?

I've worked for Holden, Ford, Toyota, BMW, Goodyear & Qantas. All of them had various types of recalls or embarrasments during my tenure. People forget pretty quickly. This is why VW have been so arrogant & complacent about the current situation.

Why will Grandma & Grandpa get a nice letter from VW-AUS? Or do they own a VW?

26000 registered owners + recall = loss of confidence. 26000 x 5 family members x 3 neighbours x 5 workmates = PR disaster. Word of mouth is the best publicity you can get. Conversely bad word of mouth is the worst. I imagine that VW was pretty chuffed with fleet sales. Woolworths and 500 golfs. Do you reckon they'll line up for another VW at lease end. Dealers already discounting mk6 trade in valuations due to bad press.

    A blip? I don't think so.

However I could be completely wrong. If that's the case maybe I will bring my golf to near Blakehurst at resale time. Should guarantee a top price.
