    Hello there!

I'm a soon to be owner of a golf hopefully and I'm currently looking at a second-hand 118 Comfortline Manual model.

The one I'm looking at is a 2009 model (MY 2009 I think) and it has the RNS-510 unit. My questions are:

    1) When I go to inspect and test drive this car, is there anything unusual I should look out for? Considering it's made in 2009, so far I think I'll be listening to the sqeaking sound during acceleration (in terms of anything unusual that is).

    2) Are there any known bugs or things to look out for in the RNS-510? I've always driven an old car so any car with a cd player is a major improvement for me

    3) The owner says there's about 6 months of warranty left on the car. If I buy it off him, am I right in assuming the remaining warranty can be transferred to me even though it's now second-hand (provided he gives me all the warranty documents)?

Best answers I can give you:
    1) Check the body for scratches and the service history, that will give you a good indication for how it has been look after. If you have any doubts, pay for a pre-purchase inspection on it.

    2) Don't know

    3) Yes, provided that it has been serviced on schedule to VW's specifications. Check the service history, if it has been done every 12 months or 15,000kms (whichever comes first) at a VW dealer, then the warranty will be fine.

    Thanks Hooba,

In terms of question 1, I was more curious about any significant recalls or anything like that considering the 2009 model would have been one of the first Mk6's developed.

There was one for the 118TSI, a reflash of the ECU if I remember correctly in order to stop the engine going "BOOM". Search through here for more detail.

    Ahh ok,

I just looked up the 2009 118TSI and apparently it runs on RON 98 instead of the standard RON 95 premium fuel for the more recent version of 118TSI. If I put RON 95 in it, is that bad ?

I'm not sure if there is a petrol station that has RON 98 near my house....

My 2011 118TSI has 98 in big numbers behind the fuel flap, 95 is in brackets. Was told by dealer that I should always use 98, and 95 should only be used occasionally if 98 is unavailable. Pretty sure I remember reading that 98 gives you more mileage for your money than 95 also...

So yeah, don't think the fuel requirement has changed.

Without actully seeing the care in person or having a drive id say it looks good on paper. it has nearly all the options which would put it at over $60k brand new. kms are below average for a 2 year old car.
to compare it to what iv seen there are two for sale at the dealer im getting my polo gti from. one black one silver. both 5 door, dsg and detroits black one is MY10 has 17000km and no other options although it has a apr tune and they want $41k. the silver is a MY09 has 4100km and they want $38k. theres also a red MY12 demonstrator that has only 9000km on it but it was used by the dealers wife and its a bit horrible in side

Its not a bad buy, just remember when it comes to resale options don't mean you will get more for it. Generally speaking though it can make it a more desirable buy so you will have less issues trying to move it.

I was thinking that with the car just having its 30,000KM service and tires replaced that you wouldnt need to worry about servicing and stuff for a good year or so at least (depending how far you drive).
