    Buying a MK6 GTI!

    Hey guys,

Exciting times, I am in the market for a pre-owned MK6 GTI. I was previously looking at MK5 GTI's, but I thought since I'll be looking to keep this car for some time I may as well go the MK6. I don't want to have regrets, especially with the MK7 GTI around the corner. I also feel the interior of the MK6 after sitting in both is light years above the MK5!

Anyways, I am going to have a look at this car next week. Can any of you guys fault it? It's currently the cheapest MK6 GTI manual on Carsales right now. I'm looking to spend around $30k.

In terms of options that doesn't have many, although the base model MK6 comes with enough! No HID's, sunroof or leather. Although I love the tartan seats the misses thinks otherwise lol.

Any advice on what to look for when I go see this? Or even is anyone on the forum willing to give a shameless plug into me buying theirs lol?

    Thanks,
    Damian

    Hi Damian,
You're best bet is to take the car to a VW specialist and get it checked over. They usually charge around $100 for this and it's a very worthwhile investment. I'm sure one of the Melbourne crew on here can point you in the right direction of who to go and see. And welcome to the MKVI fold!

My favourite colour. Okay so don't buy just because of that, but it sure looks smart. Good luck.

Check the log books and service records, and of course any sign of previous accidents. Get the VW specialist to especially check for
leaking water pumps which aren't always visible by a puddle of water under the car.

As above, have a vw specialist look it over, and look for water pump leaks, oil leak from timing case around sensor, parcel shelf lugs for signs of fatigue, and check for a full service history. Also remember vw have a track record for not assisting when buying a second hand vehicle and applying for goodwill. Nice car tho, definitely the spec I would have bought if I had gone for a mk6 GTI.

    Hi All,

Looking at purchasing a well looked after 2009 Golf 118TSI with DSG from an original owner. This car has had major engine trouble and DSG issues fixed under warranty in the last few years. It also qualifies for the recall program currently underway, so I am told. My questions are as follows:

    1. Does the recall program eligibility change between car owners?
    2. Should any fixes make the car more reliable for the longer term, or will there be a chance of expensive out of warranty fixes (directly stemming from the well known issues)?
    3. Do the fixes carry a warranty?
    4. Should I avoid this model/year altogether?

    Thanks!

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm not sure how I'd be able to get a VW specialist to check it out unless I pay them to come and check it out.

I might do some research myself on known issues and see if I can sus it out myself.

As of today though there are HEAPS of MK6 GTI's on the market! Maybe everyone's gettinf ready to upgrade to the MK7 haha.

Also another question; would you guys wait til the MK7 lands before buying a GTI or get them now while they're in EOFY sales etc. For some reason I don't see the price of the MK6's dropping that much or at all.

    Cheers,
    Damian

Hey guys there are a few Mk6 GTIs on carsales, and I am in the market for one.

    Preferably Black or Grey.
Less than 100k kms (around 50k maybe)
    Leather
    Sunroof

I'm looking to spend less than $30k. How much could I haggle these down to? Would offering $27k to a 45k km MY10 with leather be a reasonable offer? Would trying to get a discount, due to the 60,000km service due soon be a good enough reason to do so?

I'm also not sure whether I should snap one up now or wait til the MK7 GTI. I heard that it's due in October?

    Thanks.
