Second clutch pack rebuild AND water pump

    Hi

Owner of a 2011 GOLF Comfortline. 142,000 kms.

Car was due to go in Thursday 14th for second clutch pack rebuild, under warranty, and water pump replacement as it had developed a fault 2 weeks ago. Tuesday night it dropped ALL the coolant from the container onto my garage floor, so I had to fill it up with distilled water and take it in Wednesday 13th instead.

$1186 for water pump, timing belt or chain (forget which one , I was in shock at the price of the water pump!!) and labor for 4 hours.

Have a diesel Tiguan as a loaner. Hell, is that a stonking MOTOR, IT REALLY pulls away... Goes like the clappers.

Looks like you need to find yourself a good independent workshop

In all reality the car is getting to the kms that you have to start expecting to start spending $ on maintaining it.

And yes the 130TDI Tiguan is a really nice bit of kit. The higher power output diesel and 7 speed DSG work so well together. Heaps of torque and really gets moving with so little fuss.

To be fair, having done a pump and a timing chain myself, it's a bitch of a job, especially on a garage floor, and I'd HAPPILY pay a grand ish to have someone else skin their knuckles, and go through the process of timing the engine - and I LIKE working on cars.

And welcome to the world of TORQUE. The experience may sour if the DPF plays up : )

The water pump is more than just a water pump though, hence the price.

What else was it, given my lack of attention to what dealer was saying after I heard "$1186"?
