I did a search and could only find info on warped rotors. The braking action is very smooth at the moment, no shuddering at all.

The brakes on the VAG cars are good and bite well to slow down fast enough, even when driven reasonably hard. You most likely gave it too much of the stick, when you had to brake that hard.
