Installed mine today. Tried for about 20 minutes to get one side off. Swore a lot. Tried the other side, and it worked first time! Twisted wheel 180 degrees, and the other one was now much easier.

Unfortunately the RHS paddle seems to be a bit sluggish when returning after using. Initially it didn't click at all, but I couldn't see any leather to trim (as per instructions), so I just kept clicking the damn thing until it freed up a bit.
I think I will certainly track down some new springs for them.

Has anyone upgraded the springs, or know of any to try?

Not that i know of. I organized this group buy both on here and on VWgolf.net.au and a lot of people on there who had originally fitted them also seem to be saying the same thing about the springs.
Gonna do some research later today to see if i can track down some stiffer springs of the same size. Will repost on here with details..

I know i know.. its not that big a deal some members might say... but because i am anal retentive about stuff like this, i would rather have the full "clicking" sensation i had with the OEM shifters!!

No one has tried yet, because basically after the leather gives way a bit and a few days pass, their opinion on whether the springs need replacing or not changes.

Having said that, please do let us know how you go.

you just need to take a quarter or so turns off the tight RH paddle, I did and it works fine then after a while it loosens up a little more and you can tighen it up a little more if you like (i've been too lazy)

as pointed out its a common issue with the paddles on the mk6 wheel.

    Very frustrated

    Left paddle works fine.

The right paddle works with the hinge pin re-inserted about 75% (clicks on and off as expected) but once the pin is fully reinserted, the paddle won't return to normal position once pressed on i.e. won't click off.

Before you ask - the spring is inserted correctly, I haven't bent the pin or damaged the switch in any way and I can't see where it's binding.

I wonder if the 2010 Golf R switch is subtly different to the ones in the installation instructions and videos. Certainly the wiring is different as are the steering wheel switches. Or it might be a problem with the fine tolerances that delayed the delivery of the black paddles.

I've installed the left paddle but the right one remains uninstalled with the expectation that it may need to go back to S2T - likely to be a frustratingly slow process.

I'll email S2T and update with any feedback.

I have the same problem... Already spoke to Michael @ S2T and looks like some of the paddles got anodized a little more than others, I will send you the quick fix when I get home with some pics...

Please pm me your email address ..

Feel free to post any feedback you got to save S2T having a flood of calls. There are quite a few of us who will be installing them on our R's in the coming weeks. Though I might just get the dealer to do it so they're good to go when I pick it up...

I had a similar problem and did not like the idea of the screw not tightened......
my fix = clean the anodising off around the hinge pin areas with wet and dry 300+ and keep it smooth this will stop the hinge from binding, trial fit a few times until you are happy with it, also you can grease the hinge pin to help with any binding issues its fiddly but better than undoing the screw a few turns..

    All,

Sorry for the delayed reply. Was out doing early Xmas shopping... I hate the queues!

Okay here is the reply from Michael @ S2T

"I test fitted four dozen sets here at the shop and I found a few that had the issue that you have described. I am sure that your 'sticky' Paddle received too much Anodizing which has resulted in a build-up of material on the inside of the pin holes and on the outside of the base of the Paddle.

If you feel comfortable with a small modification of the Paddle, you can remove the Anodizing at the point of contact which should free the Paddle from touching the inside of the Paddle Shifter Module. Please see the attached pictures. To clear the inside of the pin hole, roll-up a small portion of sandpaper and twist, push, and pull it in the hole enough times to clear the excess material. This should fix your issue.

We very sorry and are extremely embarrassed that you have had this issue with your Paddles."

Also below the pics of the modifications. Sorry about the size of the photos but i wanted to keep them as high res as possible!

Happy to email them directly to anyone who requests it.

I already did the mod on mine using a dremel with a light 400 sandpaper head came out perfect, will try to fit it tomorrow and re-post.

Shows how well machined they are... you really can't tell that from most pics
