RTMG Adaptor + R8 Coils into a 118TSI (plus more)

This morning started with the removal of the OEM RVC camera to swap it out for an aftermarket unit which provides a CVBS output rather than the RGB one from the OEM unit. This means I no longer need an adaptor (which never worked) and I have my reverse camera back on my new Maxca head unit with Wireless CarPlay and Wireless Android Auto.

It was easier than I remember when I first installed over a decade ago... , I was able to tie the new cable to the old cable and pull it through the same path I used last time which was still a fiddly bastard, but something people can clearly DIY. (I think it would be much easier in a hatch rather than a Cabriolet too). In any case, RVC working again!

But onto the real story. It came.

I've been eyeing off this adaptor for years and years and years and finally pulled the trigger.

The install instructions are pretty straight forward, remove the old bits, repin the connectors and bolt in the adaptor.

I picked up a coil puller set too which made life soooooo much easier, although the new setup I don't think will ever need it again since the coils are that much more accessible.

I was planning on taking more photos of all the steps, but was too busy busting up my knuckles and swearing over lost tools and broken parts.

Since the diverter valve was kinda in the way I re-installed the GFB DV+ that I removed when the engine went bang years ago and never got around to re-installing.

The intake is a Forge Induction Kit that's been off for the same time. This really opens up the intake and you can hear the engine spool up (and supercharger whine) as well as the DV+ when it dumps thanks to the lack of any baffling. Here is an old video I did of it when I first installed it.

There is a couple of clearance issues I will look into...

The breather pipe sits ontop of the first coil. It doesn't quite seat completely either, so this is one of the things I might look into if it leaks. Maybe install an oil catch can for good measure.

The N75 valve doesn't look like it has enough clearance to be re-installed either so sort of sits there. I might look at longer pipes to see if I can secure it somewhere.

These combined means the stock engine cover can't be re-installed... but then you also wouldn't be able to see the extra red awesomeness

Some may have noticed the hose clamp in the back of that last pic... the stock pipe was cracked and taped up with black electrical tape (or something similar). The adaptor plug on Coil 1 is also completely ****ed. I believe that both these bits were broken by VW when they rebuilt the engine in 2007. My bodge job on the pipe might be just fine, the coil connector I'll hunt down a replacement and fix that properly. (If anyone is wrecking something and has a spare coil plug, let me know).
