Rough servicing costs for Mk6 GTI

    Hello all,

I have nearly put 5k on my MY11 GTI since buying it and I’m weighing up DIY servicing vs garage.

My car has done 65k now and while it had a service at purchase they didn’t do the DSG oils and filter so that’s something that needs doing straightaway. I had a quote from a reputable garage in Adelaide for $350 (oil/filter/labour) but have had conflicting info from another mate who recently had his done elsewhere- where he went charged $45 per litre for the DSG oil.

If anyone here services their GTI themselves I’d love to know your rough expenses and/or what you do yourself vs get a garage to do. I note the DSG service is relatively straightforward, and most time is taken by removing the battery to get to the filter.

    Thanks all.

You don't have to remove the battery to get to the filter, to service the DSG. I've yet to see an online guide that is 100% correct. Everyone seems to put their own spin on things, which can lead many down the wrong path, particularly with the draining and re-filling of the oil.

Hard to give rough estimates, when the prices for parts and oils can vary wildly.

To do a full 60K service on a MK6 GTI, with DSG, most independant shops would be up around the $900 mark.

    Thanks Umaii Naa!!

Can’t believe the variance in DSG oil prices. Is the Liquid Moly DSG oil ok to use? Seems reasonably priced.

I keep it reasonably low for Ravenol. I think LM is roughly the same price at retail.

Both decent oils, not hand any issues with them.

Genuine VW oil, some dealers are selling it at $120/l.
