    Ridiculous question

Why is the horn pad so stiff on the Mk6 style steering wheel? I've noticed that it's impossible to "chirp" the horn on my 2010 Jetta yet it was easily doable on my friend's 90TSI Golf.

Is it the steering wheel or the horn? I want to replace my horn with the Hella Super-Tones but I'll scare everyone ****less if I can't control it properly.

    Your friend's 90TSI Golf doesn't have a MK6 steering wheel?

    Isn't your Jetta a MK5?
    I'm confuzzled!

Lol ok, my friend's 90TSI is a Mk6, and my Jetta is a Mk5 but it has a Mk6 interior. The horn on our Tig behaves the same way and it's got the Mk5 interior.

    Aah ok.

I'm not sure to be honest. I could only guess it has something to do with crash safety in relation to the airbag, as the airbag cover and the horn are the one unit. I know that when I had to remove the cover to install the S2TPP DSG Paddle Shifters, that I had a really really hard time! Whereas the MKV style covers come off pretty easily.

reassuring to hear some one else has noticed the same , in my previous cars (none of them VWs) it was easy to give someone a gentle beep of the horn, but in the mk6 it takes a conscious action to sound the horn. don't necessarily want to give some one a loud blast all the time.

My Mk6 TDI is the same, so I suppose they're all like that.

Vehicles leave my ownership with an almost pristine horn anyway (can't remember the last time I used one in anger...), so I don't really notice it.

Is it a normal steering wheel, or the one with the buttons? Don't see why your replacing the horn, I like the one in the 118 TSI YMMV.

its a horn.... how often do you use it? I know people love their cars, and want to get the best out of them, but seriously.... the title of the thread says it all

Yes I've noticed that it's not possible to give a warning 'bip' on the horn. I also find that there is a slight delay because you have to press down so firmly that by the time the horn sounds, the idiot that was cutting me off has already got home, kissed the missus and is sitting down to dinner.
