    Reverse light housing leak

    Hi Folks,

Just so people are aware - and hopefully it doesn't happen to anyone else - that my Golf's reverse light housing wasn't properly sealed from factory and water and moisture leaked inside.

This caused the connection to oxidise (as observed the connections turned white rather than the steel colour), and when I closed the boot, on occasion the reverse light warning would appear on the display when I next started the car and the reverse light wouldn't work (curiously the brake light would).

Took the car for a check-up at Barloworld Mascot. Their mechanic spotted it and they repaired it under warranty.

I hope I'm the only one...

I don't own a Mk6, but was the leak on the car or hatch portion of the reversing light cluster? The factory person may have moved to the Mk7 line, since I also had it happen on the hatch portion, but only once so far. (After washing the car)

    It's on the hatch...

Another interesting note, the reverse light only works on the left hand side. But the right hand side, there's a light bulb fitted too and that's not used (in Oz). So if your reverse light blows, just swap with the right one until you can get to your local auto spare parts shop. The light bulb is around the $5 mark.
