Yeah, had I know about that possibility, I probably would have taken the trim off and had a look first... oh well, if it is there, then you'll hear me screaming all the way in Melbourne sometime this weekend no doubt

NO, there is no loom in place. Volkswagen do NOT install looms for devices that are not installed.

You need to create a loom and the only part that is different from the Mark V loom is where it connects to the reverse light.

The only difference from my guide for the Mark V (Mark VI guide I'll try and get up this week) is the few minor changes which I've just listed on my Mark V guide, everything else is essentially the same.

Only if the car was equipped with RVC does it come with the RVC interface. So far this is across the board for all specs with the RCD 510.

    Already a Mk6 wiring diagram here :

You might want to check the parts list given as you'll find it's missing a connector that will leave you with an unfinished job.

I've just popped out the tailgate trim on mine and there's definitely no loom in there. BTW, getting that trim out looks a LOT harder than any of the guides I've seen for a Mk5.

Took pics, etc... will post up a guide when I've done the whole thing.

    Issue!

Was just scouting out inside the tailgate with the trim removed... and there's a problem (for R and GTI Adidas peoples anyway). The LED tails use a very different wiring layout to the traditional rear lights. The reverse bulb appears to piggy back off the line that runs to the LEDs, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to remove the inner left tail light to get at the connection. Even if I can get to it, there's not a lot of room to work with at all, so going to have to get a bit creative with the loom on this one.

    More to come...

FYI, the connector to the LEDs is 7N0 972 703. I wasn't able to determine the part number for the actual socket, but I think it's time to go check out that retrofitting LEDs thread!

Pinched this pic from the UK GTI retrofit thread (thanks chaps!) to illustrate the issue : http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...0/DSCF2181.jpg

This doesn't actually have a reverse light fitted, but shows the connection. The reverse bulb goes in just below and to the right of the W stencil and it has 3 wires that splice out from the bottom of that plug, where the Red and Brown wires are in that picture. Given the input to that connector is for the rear lights, the splice will need to happen on the backside of that connector, bugger! I'll have to research this a bit more.

    Update

Doing some more poking around in there, I've figured out a way to make it work even with the above mentioned issue. But, it's going to require a bit more work than the Mk5 or Mk6 with normal lights would require. Got pics and all that of what needs to be done, so will include all that in a guide.

    Another issue

Friendly Polish eBay guy supplies the RVC unit that's slightly newer and slightly different than ones in the previous guides. Not sure if the same thing applies to the ECS supplied one, but I noticed recently they superceded the well known part number with a new one too.

Nothing too dramatic, just different connector and different wiring slightly, but it's going to mean the loom will have to be different regardless of whether you're doing a Mk5 or 6. Mav, I'll let you know the details of what I do as you might want to mention it in your Mk5 guide, one of the connectors is completely different now than it was on the older ones. My RVC has a build date on it of 21/6/10.

    <insert expletive here>

I've found the part number(s) for the factory loom: 5K6 971 148 - There are about 8 different varieties depending on various options... Grrrr! Not all of them have RVC wiring in them, they are basically full looms for the tailgate for all the lighting by the looks of it. This is the only place I can find an actual picture of it (and it's obviously from a scrap yard or something - well used):
