Received my GTI last week, with a Dealer fit (third party) RVC install on my RCD-510 - on the badge. No OPS.

Problem is that the screen resolution and brightness is not good - and the brightness settings do not work. Is the camera light sensitive?

Also I do not have any yellow guide lines - not even the fixed line?

Would you guys say I got a cheap set-up or incomplete? or would I need extra parts to get the lines and brightness going.

    Cheers

That sounds a little strange. Mine has the lines and the picture is pretty damn good, even in the dark...

As for setup, there really isn't anything other than the camera itself + the cables, no extra box or anything that could be missed.

Maybe it's a cheap knock off?? Any idea on part/model numbers or anything??

No idea on what the part numbers are... I thought i read somewhere that there is something else for the steering wheel to detect movement and therefore the lines?

    Can anyone confirm?

Yeah, there are two methods for adding a camera.
    1. Direct input to rcd/rns-need to toggle I think byte3 bit 5 in radio/navigation unit.
    2. connection by a rvc CAN module, need to tell main controller about new module and does the non static lines on the radio display.
This is what I have researched anyway in the tidbits of info out there..
When I can activate my rear camera (no can module) I can give some first hand info... I installed it a month ago but still trying to get my hands on a working vcds/vagcom cable..

Retrofit RVC to Mk6 GTI Golf Question

    Hi Guys,

Quick Question – I have found a Rear View Camera online – OEM VW Golf V V1 badge rear view camera for RNS510 - $609.00.

I have called 2 VW dealers here in Brisbane and 1 has told me I can not retrofit a rear view camera as its only factory fitted and the other dealer said they can fit one, but they need to replace the stereo unit and im up for thousands to do this.

Does this sound right? Has anyone successfully fitted the Rear view camera to a GTI golf ( the one where the badge opens when reversing). This is proving to be a massive hassle as Im getting mixed answers.

Apologies if this has been answered here before, but I cant find any posts relating to this.

The install is actually pretty straight forward for the camera itself, a replacement head unit is even easier if you need that.

I got the camera from here and the kit is excellent:

As for your radio, what do you currently have?

If it is an RCD510 it *might* have the video in connector, if you have the RNS510 it does.

    Check out this page here:

Not all RCD510's have connector #6 which you need. I vaguely recall reading that all new RCD units have the connector but I can't confirm that. Best to check to be sure... it's all of one trim piece and four screws if you want to look.

A 2nd hand RCD-510 is $350 - $600 and there is usually a few around. The RNS-510 is about $900 - $2,000 on eBay. They even have them for 999.00 EUR on carsystems at the moment just watch out for the maps.
