Removing rear bumper Golf R ?

Has anyone removed the rear bumper on a Golf R ?

What holds it on at the top ?

After the repairs, I notice the drivers side top edge under the tail light is loose and the other side isn't. Means the hatch actually pushes it in when you shut it.

It will be going back yet again to the repairers for other issues but wondered if there was a quick way to make it more solid.

I can't see how to get into the back of it

    Well, yes, over it

I am finding out though how rubbish the VW fittings are. Not much holds anything on really.

The side skirts are hilarious (a wing and a prayer holds them on)

Won't be able to get it back into the insurers until mid to late Jan

Well I said it before but I can only hope your issues get sorted sooner rather than later. It's amazing isn't it. All fits and holds well until you remove and try to refit them.

Well, got it all off. Gotta say, VW's method to hold the bumper on is just shocking. A few clips and that is it.

I actually suspect this isn't the right bumper or there just isnt much room for error in fitting. The friction clips are stupid, just cheap and nasty

I had to use a screw to hold the top right edge in (invisible) and much more secure than VW's feeble effort.

Sounds like you've fixed the problem and made it fit better and more secure. Christ I might have to wrap mine in cotton wool so I don't experience the headaches you've been having.

Yes but that's ll that's needed. Most modern cars bumpers are press fit and held on by fasteners.
If your repairer is reputable and ESP I'd it's an insurance job, a complete set of new fasteners should heve been invoiced, and mot importantly, used. Yes the tolerances are tight, but I'd imagine that's a good thing

The clips are poorly designed and flimsy.- not replaceable either

The contact point is a few mm at best. Interestingly, the repairer mentioned that quality has dropped considerably in the Golf range since the MKV.

After removing various trim to get at the clips, it is then you realise how poorly designed the fittings are.
