I haven't seen it done, however it would most likely seriously reduce the security of your vehicle. For remote start to work the immobilizer/reader coil would have to be bypass(because the key would not be in the car), which would mean anyone could pretty much hot wire the car.

That is unless technology has moved to the point that new systems send the immobilizer info over a wifi with the remote start system, but i doubt that.

Remote start is illegal in Australia also; the law requires that you're in the driver's seat and 'in control of the vehicle' whenever the engine's started.

Why does the new holder commodore and Chrysler 300 have this feature If it was illegal. Or its illegal only on after market.

Dont know but it is definitely illegal to have a turbo timer running and walk away from the car. However I did it in front of a Cop and he never said anything.

The latter. Not sure about the 300, but the Commodore has special provisions that allowed it to be complied (systems to ensure that no-one can jump in and take off without the key, etc).

I remember a few years ago someone doing it to a Golf and it involved moving the ignition barrel to inside the dash so it was hidden, with the key in it to bypass immobiliser etc, I remember reading it thinking, 'too hard'.......
