    Refining a 118TSI

Greetings all, am new to forum but been a lurker since I picked up my 118tsi in March. Have to say the forum has been a fantastic resource, and absorber of free time. I'm thinking of some minor mods to make the car a nicer place to be, am not really one to put my foot down all the time but would like a little less body roll. Its completely stock at present, no sportpack or anything. Here are my ideas thus far, I'd appreciate any more suggestions.

    1. KN panel filter (everyone seems to have on of these lol)
    2. H&R small sway bars, front and rear. I've no real complaints about the ride bar the body roll on the twisties, and I think the missus might complain about stiff springs bleh.
    3. New tyres - am thinking michelin pilot sport 3s, im using the stock 16" wheels so options a bit limited. (I hate the stock Dunlop Fastresponse set - harsh road noise and grip could be better)
    4. Dynamat sound insulation.

I'd appreciate any tips on stuff that anyone has tried/had done that has made the stock 118 experience just that little bit better. Thx.

Hey mate, welcome to the forums. Take a while to look around, specifically in The Official MK6 Forum Important Threads & Posts Index **LOOK HERE FIRST**

The 118TSI is obviously quite similar to all the other Golf's, so everything you're asking is already covered, but just in threads and forums related to those topics.
    1. Filters in these cars are pointless (both from sound and performance perspectives), but you can find the occasional person mentioning them in the What Accessories are you buying for your MK6 Golf? thread and more detailed discussion in the Tuning and Performance (inc ECU upgrades) forum.
    2. There is a Wheels & Suspension forum. There's also a thread on Whiteline V Swaybar and ALK Review. Whiteline seem to be a bit more popular locally than H&R. I'm not sure if there are specifically ones for the 118TSI though.
    3. Obviously you've got the Wheels & Suspension forum, but within the MK6 forum you have the MK6 Wheel / Rim / Tyre Thread which was setup to stop every 2nd person from asking the same question which had the same answers...
    4. There's a VW Car Audio and Electronics forum where people talk about their stereo upgrades. Obviously Dynamat goes hand-in-hand there. You also find people using it in restorations.

Def invest in the APR tune for the car. Makes it that much better of a daily driver and gives you quite a bit of pull when you hit the fun button, and I think at present they still on special possibly.

Lots of other remap options are available - most for considerably less too.
APR are good but it doesn't hurt to check out the opposition

Just consider the potential factory warranty issues related to ECU upgrades etc...... I have hear some bad stories, but sure most are ok. There are risks involved though you need to weigh them up.

Thanks guys for your replies. Always good to know what's worked for others. I've got a 2k pot to play with at the moment, just thinking what to do first. Would it be advisable to go straight for the APR tune or spend a bit on some anti roll bars and springs beforehand? I'm still sitting on 16 inch stock wheels at the moment, theres been talk on a couple of other threads about lightweight wheels, possibly enkeis. BTW i checked and the APR tune is 1395AUD at the moment. Its bloody tempting

If you upgrade your wheels let me know. I'm after a set of 16" stock.
