I disagree Barloworld lost a sale from me from the exact same reason, understand salespeople might be busy with customers and that is important but they still need to manage the process of inbound customers so to speak. I found the most helpful person at a dealership recently was the receptionist, organised a test drive of a GTI for me, did everything without needing a salesman, was able to take the vehicle out by myself without listening to any banter. That was with a pre-arranged appointment which I had to wait around for 45 mins... A good salesperson imho would notice a customer, excuse himself momemtarily from his existing customer and politely explain the situation. What pisses me off is seeing salesman sitting at thier desk eating lunch not busy and blatantly ignoring customers. person who walks out the door is a lost sale forever. I'm a pain in the ass I find a dealer to test drive then negotiate over the phone. I think VW dealers are relying too much on the car sells itself philosophy. I have been to Mercedes and BMW dealers where they bend over backwards to help you even when you are buying a bottom of the range model, they work on the strategy once they get you into the brand you stay there for life and upgrade to a higher model each time. I constantly get invites to launches, test drives and other events from MB, what do I get from VW - nada.. My wife who is the most uninterested car person I have ever met will not consider anything other than a Merc now because of the service they have provided, even though there are better cars out there for the price. We have recomended friends who have bought 2 cars off the same dealer, who found me a car at the best price anywhere within 4 hours of my call.

    Who are you disagreeing with?

The trend is that Barloworld (both Mascot and Five Dock) are to be avoided...

Can't we all just agree to disagree on this? It's in the eye of the beholder at the end of the day. What you find rude and ignorant might not be interpreted in that way by someone else.

    Interesting thread..

Thought I'd share my experiences too.

When I bought the GTi, I made sure I visited all the VW dealers in NSW. Went through the same routine each time; obtain test drive and perhaps an initial quote on the car, how long the wait would be etc.

I think most of us would decide whether or not we like the service provided by a particular sales member from the initial 5 to 10 minutes. The usual courtesy of offering drinks and asking how your day went may be more important to some but may be completely unnecessary to others. Some may value a quick delivery date or good discounts as central and thus the most important to the car-buying experience. I think it all comes down to a balance.

I ended up buying from Tony over at Denlo. To be honest, I wasnt expecting to put a deposit straightaway after my test drive. Negotiating with him was easy and on the whole a very good experience. This is not to say that the rest of the VW dealers are to be avoided. Chatswood was in my opinion quite good too. They didn't follow up though. Barloworld I found was just plain bad. The one at Mascot literally told me to get the f*** out when I offered my price to him, mind you that was the price I settled with Denlo with (and more!). Mascot was extremely rude in my opinion. They tried to imprint the idea that a DSG was the better choice instead of the manual I preferred. They even said I should pay them extra for letting me test drive the vehicle. I mean isn't test driving a car well within a customer's rights?? Five Docks was ok but on a whole I found them inattentive. Sutherlands was similar to Five Docks; I had to wait for an hour just to speak to a sales representative. I could go on forever here.. haha

For those who do end up buying from Denlo.. Even though they are extremely good to deal with, they can be very busy at times. I MEAN VERY BUSY! From memory, I had to go back twice just to get the test drive. They didn't have a manual one that was registered too. They had to put dealers plate on a new one to let me test drive. But.. Eventually I did get the it done.

After sales service: they do provide you with regular updates on your vehicle status but you just have to do that extra bit of effort to call them and leave multiple messages etc. Understandably, with 2 new products, the polo and EOFY sale, they are super busy. At the end of the day, I reckon they're the ones you want to be dealing with.

Anyway good luck to potential buyers!! I'm taking delivery of my GTi next week =D

I'm assuming that was just a figure of speech. I'm sure he didn't visit Wagga Wagga or Tamworth =)
