    Rear bumper/tail light misaligned?

    Hey guys,

I discovered something pretty shocking on my car yesterday.
Now to begin, about 2 weeks ago I noticed an awesome paint chip on my tail gate, just above the rear right tail light:
(Excuse my filthy car, I'm trying to hold off washing it....)

I managed to get my car booked in for a quote at a body shop yesterday afternoon. I knelt down to show the guy the paint chip and saw this staring into my eyes:

Comparing it to the left side, there seems to be quite a problem here:

So upon that discovery and the body shop man's advice(as he could find no evidence of an accident / another car bumping into mine), I headed over to the VW dealership where I bought the car and got the service manager to come have a look. "Extremely bizarre" were his words and booked the car in to have it checked out.

I'm a bit embarrassed that I never noticed something like that before, the paint chip was obliviously caused by touching the tail light , and call me crazy but I think it's been like before I even took delivery of the car, judging by these:

Yep... pretty clear from that last picture that it was misaligned from delivery. The dealer will surely fix both the misalignment and the paint chip for you.

We have alignment I was told the bumper, tail light and hatch had to be adjusted
    So much for quality assurance

Now I just have to wait for the decision from VW on what they are going to do about the paint ....

You've got non-factory reversing sensors which require the removal of the tail lights and rear bumper cover. Chances are it was done then. If VW decline the repair the selling dealer (or whoever installed the reverse sensors) should be covering it.

That's a very good point. The VW service manager said the car must have left the factory in that state but the sensors were indeed fitted at his dealership....

BTW, How did you know the sensors were non-factory?

Sensors installed at VW dealerships ‘stick out’ of the bumper slightly more.. Your ones look exactly the same as mine (fitted at the dealership)

Check out markwid’s pics of his OPS install:

Sensors which are factory installed should look like that..

Good luck with your claim mate..
