That's exactly what I'm talking about - it rolls around (but only in a small area of space) about where your left foot would sit if it wasn't on the clutch/footrest. It happened quite a few times today to me, so as I'm up to 7500km, I might do the oil change and get them to look at it at VW.

BMM, I'm sorry if you feel I over-reacted, but I think my criticism was reasonable in the light of the information you posted. Feel free to fault my logic.

In your first post you stated :

I interpreted that to mean that you have a noise under your seat but you hadn't bothered to look there yet to see if there was anything rolling around inside the cabin. That irritated me because you appeared to be too lazy to carry out the most basic check before posting a query. If you had said that you HAD checked before posting I would never have reacted the way I did.

You then posted to say :

So it still seems likely to me that you made your first post before physically looking under your seat, and I make no apology for calling you out on that. If I am wrong then it is only because I relied on your information in your original post (and that was all that existed at the time I posted).

You're welcome. I have lots of opinions, some helpful, some useful, some rants, some telling people things they don't want to hear. Plenty to go around. This is the interweb, often you only get as much as what you pay for. Just ignore the stuff you dislike, I won't mind

Yeah, and bigmouthmedia also mentioned that it'd be near where the driveshaft would be, even though the Golf isn't a RWD or AWD car...

But still, your post was a bit rude. Coming very close to the line of receiving an infraction. It was more that bigmouthmedia responded nicely to your post and that it didn't turn into an exchange of nasty words that saved you from such

Anyway - moving on, I'm interested in finding out what this is, so please post the response of the dealer after you've visited them bigmouthmedia

Remember also that we all love our cars - even if we are not particularly mechanically minded....

And in the end I'm no mechanic, I only know the basics - and sometimes write before I think......but it was a query in the first instance to see if anyone had been getting the same issue (which they have) and if there was any fix for it.

    Harmless !

PS - have amended the original post - no more driveshaft for me

PS 2 - Nic, shame the hail got the better of your first Golf (I luckily got some warning and stored it under a carport, just in time....) - bet you're looking forward to having this car a lot longer

I am.... and I'm really missing my car!

Got approx. 2 weeks to wait which is much better than I thought. The dealership told me if I ordered one it could take up to 26 weeks or so.
    The countdown is on!

I had a similar problem but could be different as we all seem to describe an unusual noise using different terminology ... I'll give it a shot though ...

When I accelerated at low speeds there was a creaking noise under the car (similar spot to where yours is). The noise always related to the acceleration so to repeat the problem with the VW technician I drove slowly and jabbed the accelerator and the creak happened - it was very noticeable and sounded terrible. It seemed to get worse as the car warmed up.

Fortunately the technician heard it clearly and found the problem in the workshop. I would need to check the VW report for the exact description of the problem but from memory it was an assembly problem where some cabling for the DSG had been installed the wrong way around and was rubbing on the exhaust head shield.

It was a quick fix and all is perfect now.

Anyhow, this may or may not be the same problem you are having but I guess the thing to remember is that things can and do go wrong on the assembly line.

If your noise happens quite regularly at least it will be easy for the technician to hear. Take it back and good luck!!
