Am finding out, but basically most VAG boxes have the same mechanisms, and are broken down to 5eed, 6 speed, MK4, MK5&6 etc.

I will find out about the cars diesel geek don't list on their site, but my experience so far with the 42dd bushes tells me most VW based cars run identical shifters year for year.

    MK6 Short Shifter

Some of you may have seen the shenanigans in trying to get a short shifter for my Mk6 Cabriolet. Long story short, I should have done a little more research first (It's also clearly written on the Diesel Geek website) as it turns out this part is for a MQ350 transmission which I believe is in the GTI.

The gearbox in the 118TSI is a 6 speed MQ250 (in my case that's a KWB), this box is likely in the other (non GTI) Golf's too, but be warned it's worth checking first. The layout is very similar but in what I can best describe as a near mirror image of the other box.

I have had some back and forth chats with Jim from Diesel Geek and have to say the customer service has been brilliant! If anyone is interested, I stripped out the stock shifter again today so I could take lots of photos to send to Jim, I've also included some side by side shots of the Diesel Geek shifter I have vs the stock one. We will see what Jim has to say, but the design on the MQ250 my Cab looks a lot like the older 5 speed box...

After all that Jim has advised that that this part here is actually the one I am looking for and will fix my box. At this stage I am quietly hopeful… all the research I have done makes this very likely, but since there is no 1.4TSI in the US there is a [small] element of doubt in my mind.

In short, watch this space… then all you non GTI Mk5 owners go out and buy one of these!

(If anyone wants to jump the gun and wants to order one now, let me know as I'm going to place the order tonight).

Forge say that their 5 speed short shifter also fits the 1.4 Twincharger's 6 speed gearboxes so I reckon you'll be OK.

from Forge Motorsport | Alloy Fabrication
This WILL also fit the 6 speed 1.4 litre Twincharged engines as found in the Golf Mk5 , Golf Mk6 and Scirocco. On these vehicles it replaces the OEM part No. 1K0 711 046M.

Update: The new kit arrived this morning from Diesel Geek and what an awesome bunch of people they are. Ordered on the 10th, shipped on the 11th, although sadly it was then up to that donkey express that is the United States Postal Service... Might try FedEX next time

In any case the new shiny part arrived and here are a couple of side by side with the MQ350 (used in the GTI) part on the left and the MQ250 (used in my 118TSI) part on the right:

I'm getting very good and tripping the shift mechanism in and out so it was less than 30 minutes to get the stock unit [back] out and the new one in it's place:

The hardest part is those little allen head screws. A spanner on one side and an appropriate screw driver made half of them very easy, the rest were painfully screwed in a quarter turn at a time with an allen key... damn tight spaces.

With it all back together it was time for a test drive. Wow is the throw shorter! The shift now feels very precise, almost notchy, but very nice to hold and move. I was able to hit every gear without issues so I'm very happy. Highly recommended for anyone with a manual car
