I still do not understand what you mean by "bounced off". If I peg my car to the floor (thereby triggering the 80% kickdown switch) in S1 it will rev out 500rpm past the red line to 6500rpm then change up to S2. That is what it is suppose to do. If that is all yours is doing it is normal and nothing to worry about. In most cases if you do not peg the throttle until it is actually moving at say 10kph in S mode it will already have shifted to S2 and you wont see such a rapid and aggressive rev rise.
The actual RPM limit on the ENG could well be much higher at say 7500~8000rpm and if you were seeing something like that which I doubt very much, then that may be cause for concern.

Bummer about your seats though. My car is 15 months old with the basic rag seats and no signs at all of that.

Hey Logger. How I interpret it is that he is saying that the gearbox has failed to change gears when it should so that it hits the rev limiter....
About the only reason I can think that it would do this without there being a fault is when the car knows that there is wheel spin. It may wait until the wheels have caught up before changing up.

Ah OK, I thought he was surprised it would rev to the red line and beyond.
I suppose the DSG7 failing to upshift on the odd occasion would be a glitch and something to address if it persisted.

    As above.

It didn't change, but more importantly, there was no wheel spin. It's done it a few times now, but I don't know. Seats, I will take up with VW, and I also have a duff seat back headrest tube (Again! Headrest doesn't go all the way down.)

I've had my R do it twice now. Both times the car had DSC light flashing so it probably gets confused in a loss of traction situation sometimes?

I haven't seen it happen in person, but I remember the videos of the APR Stage 4 GTI doing a 20 to 300 run. It basically jumped from 60 to 100km/h in <0.5sec, and sounded as though it was either on or near the limiter. Then the speedo dipped slightly, seemingly indicating that the wheels had traction again, at which point it then shifted up a gear and went on its merry way to 300 km/h

The MKV GT's I've seen all had a small boost gauge in the instrument panel which is missing in the car in the clip. It's definitely a MKV though.
