Problems with my 118tsi

I've got a few problems with my Golf.

My DSG has stalled on me twice. The first time, the service guys couldn't replicate the fault. Second time, I plugged my Scangauge into the car and no fault codes are displayed.

It's also been very clunky when stop start. This was on a cool night no traffic and easy driving. Happened in all modes: M/D/S

The squeak is back, though it comes and goes depending on it's mood.

I've had a rattle from the front end on loose surfaces which I can't pin point. Worse when going down a car ramp with water drainage ridges in them.

The armrest on the drivers door is getting really dirty (18000kms). Is there a way to remedy this besides reupholstering the door cards???

The seat has loose threads. I'd expect it on a car with a med-high milage, but on a car just 8 months old...



Lastly, and more worryingly...

Rough idle and misfire

Only started happening. It's had the ecu update 4000kms ago, and a rear box delete 2000kms ago. This has just developed recently, 7-900kms ago.


Is there a way to stop the water coming in when you open the door after a nice downpour??? If I wanted wet seats, I'd drive my Jeep!!!


Anyone shed any light on these probs?

What do you mean by bounce the limter? S mode is supposed to give you close to max RPM prior to changing is it not?

It hit the limiter and bounced off it during a foot to the floor moment. ESP was on and it just went straight to the limiter and bounced until I released the pedal abit. Kinda freaky when that happens in an auto!

Do you have the 118TSI with Sportpack?
The loose threads, are they on the drivers seat on the door side of the seat?
The reason I ask is that the material pattern looks rather textured, and the threads look to be the raised threads which have worn out. The part of the seat I'm asking about is the most commonly warn location on sport seats (whether cloth or leather) and great care has to be taken when getting in and out to avoid the issue. Whilst this is the first pictures I can recall from a 118TSI, we've seen it before in Golf GTI's and R32's, Polo GTI's etc in cloth or leather, as early as 6 months. Yet other people with the same seats can have them for 7 years and not have an issue.

Sport pack. Is it something I should take up with VW?

Hmmm.... I'm surprised that Volkswagen have used that type of texture on a sports pack seat, it just seems to me that it's asking for trouble!

In any case, yes, you should take it up with your dealer, but I would be very nice about it. Whilst 8 months is pretty bad, it's also an area which gets constant rubbing from you getting in and out of the car - so really they could refuse to do anything and claim that it's normal "wear and tear".

I'd also suggest that you take note of how you get in and out of the seat and try and change that slightly to avoid the problem reoccuring. I actually place my left foot flat on the drivers matt and my right hand on the door jam and "lift" myself up and over the side bolster as to not damage down that area.
I know other people lift their right leg and swing it over the side bolster and lift themselves out using the right leg - my leg isn't long enough to reach the ground from that position, and I'd prefer not to step on the door jam, hence why I enter and exit my way.

People with the recaro's are in an even tighter situation! hehe
