The Canberra address appears to be the bunch that look after ADRs

The victorian one appears to be the state ombudsman, they investigate corruption. They couldn't give a fig about somebodies warranty woes.

As I thought, no such things as an ombudsman except for the Motor Industry funded Motor Traders Association.

With the VIC one, I was of the mind that the ombudsman is basically industry oversite who also look into consumer complains, not just limited to corruption. i.e. if you look at the banking ombudsman for example, if a customer feels that a bank is overcharging them, they can complain to the banking ombudsman. It may not be a case of corruption by the bank, just the customer is concerned that the bank has done something wrong re fee calculation, etc.
So based on that, I would think that the same may apply here, if you think your warrenty is not being honoured, you could complain here... although I may be wrong..

Brad's right there is no ombudsman for the automotive industry, consumer affairs is the right direction anything else would be a waste of your and everyone elses time.

If you complaint is legitamate, lodge one with them and have them go to bat for you. Very simple process and would take you less time than what his thread has but it will not gaurantee you an outcome that pleases you. speaking from experience they tend to give the dealer the benefit of the doubt before taking any serious action so if you are looking for the magic silver bullet to fire at them this may not be it but it will eventually be resolved.

The >specific title< (telecommunications, banking, etc) Ombudsman does indeed look at consumer complaints but The Ombudsman generally looks at malpractice, corruption, etc. Look at the website & it should explain it better. My best mate works at the NSW Ombudsmans office & there are quite definitive borders as to what they will investigate (poor warranty service isn't in it). He often has to pull in ICAC and (can't remember the name but they investigate misuse of public money), the crime commission & several other investigative authorities in order to carry out their work.

Consumer Affairs is a waste of time, they can't do anything other than write a letter to the dealer and they can't enforce anything so it's pretty pointless.

Far better taking the car to another dealer to see what that achieves. From what I've read his Dad has "diagnosed" the problem with the noise from the engine but the dealer can't find a problem and he has a problem with the wipers wiping now and again and the dealer can't find a fault there either.

If he goes down the path of consumer affairs he will just annoy the people that could help him with the problems if they actually become problems that can be replicated. No manufacturer is going to replace parts just because a customer claims it's faulty especially when cars are so complex now and they have to go through the warranty process which involves verification of the fault.
