How about I suggest you take a different approach.

Your car is very clever. It has sensors all over it to make it do different things. The values of these sensors are available for you to see via settings in the climatronic of your aircon unit.

There are instructions on how to find these settings in the mkv forums, should not take long to find that thread and kindly someone has listed all of the little sensors by number. You will find that the sensor for wipers and light (automatic headlight operation) and you can test these by changing the condition of your car, ie. park it in the drive, spray with a hose, see what values change.

To be honest, your research can help get information to assist in the result you are after with a dealer.

Will that still work given that the MK6 doesn't have screens on the aircon unit anymore ?

I dont think there is a motor industry ombudsman but you can complain to the consumer affairs area of your state government.

Googling it comes up with this gem of a link from Today Tonight of all things

I have no idea, I may be wrong on that specifically. I'd be surprised if you couldn't get these values some how.

But I maintain, trying to research to help yourself with information is better when attempting to resolve an issue like you have here.

(2nd visit for this problem) and when I went to pick it up (after 24 hours without my car) they simply said no fault found again, after telling me last time that it has been a common problem and will be replaced no questions asked.

The bonnet fit and finish problem was however fixed and am happy for that.

However they completely refuse to replace the rain sensor. After telling them it sometimes drags across the dry window he came back with the pathetic excuse that I should NOT have the sensor set to on when its not raining to which I was gobsmacked. Not only this, but when its light rain, it will drag the wipers acros the window with barely any water on it, then when it teams down they wait LONGER. I cannot live with having a faulty rain sensor and no intermittent wipers as its driving me insane in light rain having to wipe it with the one touch wipe each and every time.

I rang VW customer assist who rang me back 2 days later saying theres nothing they can do about after investigating the matter.

On top of this my nearside rear speaker seems to be vibrating rather noticeably on high bass songs and I'm having troubles with the supercharger clutch making loud clicking sounds along with the car hesitating when it does this.

I'm tempted to sell the car now and am not happy what so ever. Its one thing to sell faulty cars, its another NOT to fix them, I don't mind products with faults as long as the customer service is there.

Does anyone think a letter to head office may help? Because I wont buy another golf if this is the way I'm going to be treated, the car I always wanted until I finally bought one.

I also find the face they want to charge you for a hire car it outrageous after spending $45k on a car that I'm without for a day because THEIR product is faulty.

    Stoney!

Your investment is protected buy a 3 year 100k warranty. Further you are also protected by the Trade Practices act 1974 regarding faulty good and services.Riging VWA Head office will refere you to the above and the proper problem resolution proceedures.

There is no provison under either of the above to provide you with a courtesy car whilst recifying a fault with your car. The same apply for all faulty products eg TVs etc. Some Dealers MAY offer a courtesy car however they are under no obligation to do so. Some do some don't.

A faulty rain sensor is not a critical fault and you have other options available to you which can be found in your user manual which may resolve the issue simply and easily.

Stamping on the ground loudly and shouting out here about a bloody rain sensor switch sounds a lot like you're chicken little!

All I can think of is the MTAA, which is funded by the Motor Industry. It's like letting the criminals be the judge.

Is the window clean? Is it parked in areas where dust can build up over the sensor? If the dealer is saying the sensor isn't faulty there is nothing you can do. After my car is parked in the car park all day it can do a wipe as I drive off due to dust build up. Other than that it works fine as long as the windscreen is clean.

I rang VW customer assist who rang me back 2 days later saying theres nothing they can do about after investigating the matter.
If the dealer is saying NFF what else can they do? As others have suggested go to another dealer.

On top of this my nearside rear speaker seems to be vibrating rather noticeably on high bass songs and I'm having troubles with the supercharger clutch making loud clicking sounds along with the car hesitating when it does this.
The speaker isn't really a fault but can be fixed. Take the workshop foreman for a drive and show them the fault with the supercharger and if they don't think it's an issue get them to note it down and/or go to another dealer.

I'm tempted to sell the car now and am not happy what so ever. Its one thing to sell faulty cars, its another NOT to fix them, I don't mind products with faults as long as the customer service is there.
If that's how you feel after some minor issues perhaps you're better off selling it

I also find the face they want to charge you for a hire car it outrageous after spending $45k on a car that I'm without for a day because THEIR product is faulty.
No car manufacturer guarantees a free loan car, every car manufacturer states they are not responsible in the warranty conditions but most dealers offer loan cars for free or a few dollars a day. Excepting a free loan car is unreasonable.

What product offers free loan replacements when being serviced? Computers? Nope, Air Conditioners? Nope, Phones? Nope, Watches? Nope, TV's? Nope.. and so forth.....
