^ love how VW claim that the engine rattling (probably pinging) and then a large plume of blue smoke (oil burning) out the exhaust is "normal operation".
Every car does that right?
My 2010 TSI also did this. I would put my foot down, get a rattle (like you'd here shaking a spray paint can) and get a large puff of blue smoke from the exhaust. VW weren't interested and said it was normal.
There was a previous thread on it and I can't remember if a reason was given. And yes I had had the software upgrade prior to this. It still ran well.
I ungraded to a GTI 1 month prior to the warranty running out.

It's obviously a viable marketing tool because it appears plenty of folk got out of their car ealy & upgraded to another VW. Quite a brilliant strategy.

Thanks for all replies. Its very disheartening to find out ones car is on its way out... Knowing this, I will persist with complaints to VW. Anyhow the car is still great to drive and luckily is manual. Will post updates as they happen. Thanks again for all the comments.
Which dealership? some are not very helpful.
I still see chicks driving along in these completely oblivious to the bouncing marble style noise resonating out from under the bonnet and it makes me cringe.
The Earlier files in these cars ECU's ran lambda 1 till almost redline - big fail. I have the table here somewhere
Ouch! Under any kind of boost we really need, what, about 12:1 worst case=0.8lambda. But this is just commanded/open loop you are talking about, right? Closed loop using o2 sensor it should be surely pushing for a richer mixture under any kind of load.
But I know what you mean, I keep seeing threads mentioning "I hear a marble rattle noise under acceleration, does it need a wastegate clip"...
I am very familiar to pinging an engine to destruction, having bored out a 200B engine to run flat top (shaved) Toyota pistons in it for a Datto1600, and it was pinging under even mild accel...within a month it had two cracked pistons LOL. Budget uni student solution was to run two head gaskets (after getting another set of pistons shaved down...).

I 'retuned' a Golf R two weeks ago that was running 22 psi with as lean as a 13:1 AFR and then on other runs in the 10's it also had zero modifications to the timing maps - wow what a top tune that was lol. at least they have proper pistons and rods...........actually better not say too much more here for the owners sake
You can safely run a bit leaner than 12:1 but its not a good idea with cast or hypereutectic cast pistons as they don't like knock at all.
