In fact if you look on the spec sheet available on Volkswagen.com.au you will find that they have 95RON minimum for the Golf R as well.

And once again it doesn't say recommended but it says minimum, did you miss the part where I said that the VW website said 95 minimum?. The press release they put out clearly says that 98 is recommended and the power and torque are measured using 98, with 95 power and torque are reduced.

In fact if you look on the spec sheet available on Volkswagen.com.au you will find that they have 95RON minimum for the Golf R as well.
Good on them but the whole point of the thread was that there is conflicting information with the Mk6 as to fuel.

Journos make mistakes all the time. I have seen a road test saying that the 118TSI Passat (or maybe the Golf sedan thingy whatever that's called) has the 1.8L Audi/Skoda engine in it when it's actually the 1.4TSI.

The WHEELS tuner car shootout last year had heaps of mistakes because the journos didn't have a sales brochure or press release to refer to. I think the most blatant was saying one of the cars was twin turbo when it was actually a single (or vice versa).

As a Skoda Octavia owner, i can assure you that most Octavia reviews/road tests contain many examples of incorrect facts because the journos can't be bothered checking their info or the marketing department they are dealing with doesn't know either.

    From the UK GTI brochure:
Thanks to the knock control, unleaded four star (at least 95 RON) can be used instead of unleaded Super plus. In order
to achieve maximum fuel consumption benefits on the TSI engine, Ultra Low Sulphur Petrol (ULSP) must be used.

This a great thread for new owners.

Also to add on, has anyone enquire Caltex when they will be rolling out Caltex Fuel with Techron?

If i recall correctly, Vortex fuel has been replaced with a fuel branding call Techron probably decade ago. Why is this not being roll-out in Australia?

Realistically this poll simply reflects that most of the forum members are enthusiasts who want to maximize the life of their car. Of interest, when I purchased my GTI, the dropping of the minimum RON from 98 to 95 was used as a "selling point".
