Exclamation Persistent ABS and ESP faults after drained battery

So thanks to a PolarFIS glitch (which every so often freezes leaving the CAN bus gateway somewhat disconnected) and me not driving the Golf since last weekend I found the battery drained due to accessories not being turned off when I last removed the key as they normally would/should.

Due to timing I had to leave it and head to work. Family member called and offered to take the battery out and charge it up in the shed. Sure, no problem, I've had the battery disconnected a few times now, now big deal to reset the clocks and recalibrate the power windows and ABS sensor.

So I get home to find the battery reinstalled with enough power to start the engine, and I get the usual beeps ("Defect Brake Servo", followed by "ESP Fault", with the ESP and (!) warning lamps illuminated) but whereas a short drive would normally clear the warning lamps they have stayed on since with multiple trips. I have cleared all DTCs (most of them related to low voltage) and these remain:

I've checked an older VCDS log file and the ABS control module coding is the same. The dealer replaced rear brake pads last week.

Any ideas on the cause and resolution? I've got an interstate trip scheduled on Sunday so am hoping to fix ASAP tomorrow. The car steers and brakes ok (obviously) but I can feel a difference in behaviour. I'm pretty sure ESP is disabled from how the car feels plus holding the ESP Off console button doesn't produce any 'ESP Off' messages.

    TIA

I don't know for sure but if it were my car I would go in and change the coding and then change it back.

In a "reboot to make the changes take effect" stylee

....or remove the Polaris incl. wiring and see if the faults go away. You may need to sw. upgrade the Polaris.

After fitting mine and road testing the car, I forgot to exit the Polaris screen before connecting the VCDS (to delete the fault codes after the battery disconnect) and the result was "no start" the car was immobilised. I had to reveres the installation completely to get the car started (the Polaris failed and couldn't be just reused as it was). So, I've decided not to use the Polaris in our cars, despite I liked the extra screens. If the can bus fails the car will be NO GO, so think twice if the benefit overweights the inconvenience. In my case - Tiguan Diesel (mostly wife drives it) clearly not.

Tried both of those with no joy. Dealer have run VAS diagnostics and from reading through the printed output it seems that they have tried running ESP and ABS tests without success, have checked that the coding is ok (it is), have tried recoding the module, but VAS is suggesting it is defective, so an online connection was made, which I assume means they've sent the findings back to base.

So I'll just have to enjoy my trip without assisted braking (push pedal harder & apply threshold braking techniques in emergency, no problem) and without ESP, but on the plus side I have 3 warning lamps flashing at me constantly and some new chimes when I start the car. I'm guessing the dealer will end up ordering a new ABS control module to replace my one with (under extended warranty hopefully).

Whereabouts is that module located in the car out of interest?
Also I'm wondering if a faulty ABS module should be having an impact on my speedometer? It seems unaffected so far.

I take it you've removed the PolarFIS now Ryan?

I don't think the ABS module is responsible for the speedo at all. The speedometer is typically fed by a sensor on the gearbox, unrelated to ABS sensors (which give the ESP individual wheel speeds, but don't affect the vehicle speed reading you see in your instrumentation AFAIK).

Yes it's removed (although I'm somewhat tempted to put it back in for the upcoming trip).

Has anyone actually checked the fuses and tried disconnecting the module? Sounds stupid but some funny faults can be thrown due to blown fuses, which a lot of times will result in a control module being replaced without reason. ABS module is directly on the ABS valve unit, which for a MK6 would be under the battery area, between the gearbox and firewall.

Not sure. What I have discovered is I'm also missing hill hold assist now (fortunately the handbrake was still engaged.)
