Periodic Tone with RNS-510 Sat Nav fitted Vehicles

Sorry if this is an ignorant question, and please move it to the approrpriate forum if this isn't the right one

The gf and I took a nice drive down to the Snowy mountains last week. Car was great - no problems whatsover. Lovely to drive, lots of power etc.

However, when we were driving there seemed to be a tone that sounded every 30-45 minutes.

It wasn't the speed warning, and nothing came up on the dash. We seemed to think it coincided with rest stops for some reason, or perhaps it was something to keep the driver awake. Had a flick through the manual but couldn't see anything.

Curious to see if anyone knows exactly what it is. I never hear it driving in the city.

    Cheers

I think I actually figured out what this was finally.

Do you have the RNS 510 satellite nav?
I figured that when you have 0 sattelite signal it does this sound.
This occurs when I'm out on a long drive and when im deep underground carpark and the satellite signal is 0.
You can press the MAP button and find out how many satellites you currently have on your case!

Am I right? Please confirm / deny

Just a soft ding type sound? I have had it before and got it yesterday as I went into an underground carpark, but have also had it on the highway... next time I get it I'll check the satellite count.

Yep - we've got the RNS 510 installed. Loss of satellite signal makes sense. And its is a "soft ding type sound". Sounds like it could be it - thanks guys.

It may be a "ice" warning, if the temp drops below 0 degrees?
although that doesn't explain the noise in the carpark, or lack of dash lights...

I get it and believe it is something to do with the 'traffic program' or similar. The letters TP appear on the rns display whenever the noise occurs.

How freakin' hard would it have been to just put them out of their misery, and answer the question? Obviously - too hard.

I know what this is. It drove me nuts for ages, then the missus and i were driving up the coast and it kept occuring. The Australian cars do not have the ability to update the traffic problems. On your radio you will notice the symbol TP on the right hand side. It stands for "Traffic Program".
Press The Setup Button - Bottom right hand side of RNS unit.
    Go into Traffic information
    Traffic Program
    Turn it off (deselect it)

Happy to help. no need to RTFM.
