Periodic Tone / Beep with RNS-510 Sat Nav fitted Vehicles

    Hi Guys,

Drove out of Sydney (jervis bay) over the weekend and afew weeks before that and after about 1 to 2 hours later the car will give out an alert tone ("bong") where it will continue at random intervals until i return back to Sydney. No errors or warning lights were seen on the dash and nothing on the RNS-510 unit. Any ideas what it is?

    Thanks.

You don't happen to have the 'Maximum Speed' thing set in the MFD do you? Maybe it's on 120 and so you don't hit it until you're on the highways, and then only intermittently.

that's what i thought originally and i checked to make sure its turned off. The beep even went off just as i was moving from a stop position and moving at only 20km/h. So i wasn't speeding when it went off.

Unless your temp sensor is completely wonky it won't be the "snowflake" cold temp warning (although I believe there could be snow in the Oz alpine area tonight).

If you weren't low on fuel the only other thing I can think of is a seat belt or a door open warning. But all these should have a message and/or diagram displayed.

You have the Traffic feature enabled on your RNS510.

In OZ, Traffic updates don't work, (thanks to no agreement between VWA & SUNA; don't get me started!!!!!) so there's no point in having it turned on.

You'll only notice anything on the RNS screen, if you have the "Radio" screen on.

With the Traffic feature enabled, there will be a "TP" displayed top right of the screen.

Out of the main urban areas, the "bong" will go off, & in the Radio screen, "TP" will flash.

Turn it off via the setup menu in the RNS, & it should go away.
