Our new Golf GTI Mk6 has dealer installed "VW Rear Park Sensors".
Does anyone know if these sensors have a calibration option ?
Currently we seem to be a whole lot of noise out of them well outside the distances at which they are meant to go to a solid tone (30 cms). I had hoped for a more linear response.
Any other experiences on the "accuracy" of these ultra-sonic style sensors would be interesting, particularly how they handle objects to the side of the car (eg backing out of a garage), and on the ground rather than strictly right behind the vehicle (eg those concrete block common in shopping centres).
Thanks

I would question whether they are a genuine VW item or an aftermarket item.
I've installed several sets on differring cars, and the canbus cars are teh worse (of which the opels and VW's etc are).
as far as calibration goes, the only option is to add/remove the towbar. If you have a towbar fitted, or the installer assumed you would or they just do it as routine, the calibration changes and the sensors squeel on full around 15cm prior to the norm.
The only unit I've seen with calibration possible, is teh Bosch Parkpilot system. Find out which one you have. If it is teh parkpilot, I'll hunt around and try locate its calibration procedure.
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....
They are listed on the invoice as VW ones, and priced accordingly, so if they are not the real thing, then I'd expect something back.
I've shown the problem to the dealer who has undertaken to fix it up. I will try and find out more details on the parts they used.
Thanks for the pointer on the Bosch Parkpilot system.

The genuine ones have special holders molded in the bumper at manufacture and clip in from the back.
The "genuine" dealer installed ones are made by Cobra (at least the MkV ones were) and just clip in a hole drilled thru bumper.
If they are genuine genuine ones installed at factory, then you can talk to the module with VAGCOM and alter the tone and volume of the buzzer etc and code the module if you have a towbar fitted.
The genuine sensors should start to make noise at about 120cm and then linearly progress in speed up to a solid tone at 30cm. If it isn't doing that then they're probably not genuine sensors. Listen to the quality of the sound of the beep they make. You should be able to tell instantly if the sound is a quality 'Volkswageny' type beep or a harsh or shrill sound. If you're unsure and your buyers order clearly states genuine VW sensors, I'd certainly be questioning it.
As to picking up other objects, it all comes down to the width of the sweep of the outer sensors. Normally yes, they will pick up items just outside the bounds of the car, like parking bollards, kerbs, concrete pillars in carparks and people standing near the car.

There are two different RPCs. The ones fitted at the factory are different from the VW accessories ones (dealer fitted).
The sensors look different.
