Oh man...that stinks!
I'm very sorry to hear about those issues.
Def take it up with them ASAP... The wheel should def be covered due to the probs with the park assist.

Hey guys,
Has anyone had a complete break down of their park assist? Everything was working for the first 3 1/2 days (well sort of), then:
* Front and rear sensors now wont work - just getting an annoying single beep when on
* Rear camera works occasionally...and sometimes when in drive. ( I love seeing where I have just been.)
* Park assist doesnt engage - I get an error message stating something like "Park Assist Malfunction. Service Now! "
Also the day before the whole system decided to *#@$ itself, I was doing a reverse park with assist on and it scratched part of my wheel. Have mentioned this to the service department as I think the two are related.
Anyones else Park Assist Package have a complete meltdown?

Totally agree with Tigger to notify your dealership asap.
My thoughts also that hopefully they will cover the damage to your rim.
Recall also reading ages ago regarding park assist, not to park too close to the car you pull up along side before you engage reverse, and I think the sensors also line your car up with the one behind you when reversing in, so in other words if the
car behind you is very close to the gutter, yours will be too?
I may be wrong on this as it was quiet a while ago, but fairly sure it was on this forum, so try searching park assist as this could be a great source of info for you.
Also sorry to hear what's happened, hopefully it just needs resetting but your dealer will be your best bet

Personally automating delicate driving operations like parking is a recipe for disaster. I'd never allow a software system to take any control of reversing or parking of my car.
Similar to planes like those of Airbus where a software mulfunction can render the vehicle totally unpredictable.
With a rear view camera and automatically dipping side view mirrors, reverse parking parking should be an ease for drivers in general.
My GTI is not equipped with park assist but the included auto windscreen wipers is based on what I'd call a very very basic software algorithm that does not suit the intended purpose.
I do like cruise control although the basic algorithm is more than adequate for it's intended purpose.

thanks guys - was on the blower today and have booked a time this week for them to look at it.
GTI Mk6 - thanks for the advice about distance, I was aware of that as they gave me a demo and explained during delivery. I had plenty of space between me in the car, prior to reversing. (hence my suspicions)
JRgti - I hear you..."i have myself to blame for trusting a computer" But it was only day 3 and I still was taking it slowly as I honestly still didnt trust it, so the scratch is only small as I braked as soon as I felt the rub.

I have not used PA once in my car. However I use my sensors daily.
The one time I attempted to try the PA it didn't seem right and i've never tried again let alone complete a manoeuvre.
I've also read about the system not being full proof and if you go in too far scratching your wheels VW will not cover it.

If you use the auto mirror adjustment function, you can spot the gutter as it approaches and intervene in the event that Park Assist were to steer too closely. I've had it happen a couple of times and was easily able to brake in time and adjust. Park Assist isn't perfect, but it's pretty nifty and allows you to get into spots you may not had considered. Remember a potential parking space only needs to be 0.9m longer than the car!

Sorry to go off track... But I'm more concerned with other peoples parking ability, or lack of than my parking sensors working or not to be brutally honest!
A neighbor reversed into my wives 3 week old RAV in his 6 wheel work ute 12 months ago. "It's only cosmetic....." was his response to my verbal tirade!!
$4.5k damage.... Sorry but if he does the same to my R I'll be doing time!
Phew rant over!!!

Whether Park Assist is good or bad is not really my main concern. I am more concerned about a $1700 option on my car deciding to completely malfunction after only 5 days. What's next... the DSG falling out?
