In speaking with my supplier they advised me not to do full bonnets for a number of reasons, the main one being that the film isn't wide enough and can't be spliced to be made wider. They are currently working on the kit for the Golf R, the GTi kit is $726 installed, I think the R kit will be around the same price, possibly just a bit more expensive due to the number of cuts in the grille.

I will get back to you with an accurate price shortly. Mid december will be good for us, the R kit will definitely be developed by then as well."

I have asked about other possibilities for full bonnet and will update again when I hear back.
Unless things have changed at Ventureshield recently. They were bought out by 3M only about a year ago. I am pretty sure what he said isn't correct.

I have ventureshield or 3M film on my whole bonnet (and car). Universal Tint in Brookvale (now called AdvancedSurfaceTech) was able to get sheets large enough to cover the entire bonnet from 3M/Ventureshield.

I suggest making calls to Ozicozi Artarmon (now called surfacetech) and AdvancedSurfaceTech Brookvale to get an accurate picture of the situation. I am pretty sure you can get the whole bonnet done without splicing two sheets together.

Autografika may not have the ability to work with such a large sheet and may only want to rely on the downloadable patterns found on the Ventureshield site. Custom work requires the use of a large vacuum table and plotter/cutter. Both of which OziCozi/Surfacetech and Advanced SurfaceTech Brookvale have access to.

Ozicozi has a full bonnet kit so it can be done.

Surfacetech - Standard Front Kit with Full Bonnet

BTW, I have seen Andrew's work (OziCozi Artarmon) and it is very good (invisible from a few feet away). I would recommend going to a good installer rather than saving a few dollars with one that isn't as good. Unless of course, the price difference is almost half. A good installer is important.

Has anyone else been told this? What are your expected delivery dates?
    I bought from Canberra/Belconnen VW.
    Hey Nitro

My R was built 28 Sept and was told delivery should be around the second week of Dec.

It's currently sailing on the Morning Camilla!

Has your R been allocated, or onboard a ship yet?

Thanks for the responses - I was aware that Ozicozi did a full bonnet, and I was pretty sure they used Ventureshield, but they only mention Stoneguard on their site (which again I thought was Ventureshield, but you'd assume they'd put a trademark recognition somewhere...) - so confirmation is nice.

Autografika did a good job on Olaf the Golaf's roof wrap, and auto graphics is their business, so I have confidence they'd do a good job, but the question is whether they can do anything above and beyond the manufactured kits.

The other issue is travelling up to Sydney for a day or so to get the install done (risk getting chips along the way), or getting an installer down to the ACT (which is why I started this thread to gauge interest in the first place). Andrew from Ozicozi said that they could do it - but finding a suitable venue and coordinating enough people (with different vehicle delivery dates) was getting very challenging.

Maybe I just bite the bullet and take the family up for a few days in Sydney, and stay away from any other vehicle on the road.

I agree mate, but I would go further and say the quality of the installer is the most important thing when you're talking about this type of product. It's not something that just anyone can do. It's an art rather than a science

Hmm..that's odd, if auto graphics (facepalm..I should have realised from their name) is their business, they should have the right tools and skills for the job.

A further update - Craig from Autografika in Canberra has now confirmed that he is able to source wider rolls of Ventureshield and they are able to do a full bonnet as a single piece.

That's great news simonm. Although other members have had the full bonnet done with multiple pieces, it's obviously much better if it can be done with a single piece. Let us know how you go!

(I've got mine booked into Surface Tech, previously OziCozi, for when it arrives in December, so I'll let you know how I go with them).

Yeah - I was starting to plan a trip to Sydney just so I could have the full bonnet as a single piece, but was apprehensive about the potential for damage on the way there.

Now I can get what I want locally, I'm much happier (I have a lot of confidence in the installer's ability do do a great job, it was only the lack of single piece full bonnet that pushed me to look elsewhere).
