Totally normal and common on a heavily bolstered seat (regardless of whether it is cloth or leather). You can try and change the technique you use to get in and out of the car to reduce/minimise rubbing your body on the seat.

It maybe "normal" but it's not acceptable in my opinion. It wasn't a problem in my Mk5 GTI with the exact same level of use and I don't there's virtually no wear on our family couch which we've had for 10+ years - some creases in the leather but hardly worn.

I'll speak to an auto trimmer and see what they say, might be cheaper to repair rather than replace.

I think it would be pretty easy just the change the Squab its only the lower part of the seat you require , Ask your dealer for a discount because of the premature wear .

Own a Mk 6 103Tdi 2009, with a standard interior- have sourced a set of front and rear Mk 7 golf seats that are leather. just want to know if I could put them into my mk6 with no issues, just bolt right in- don't want to modify anything.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi guys,

I recently purchased a MK6 Golf R with leather seats. I am wondering if anyone can assist with some queries please:

1. Do all golf R’s fitted with leather seats come as electric motorised lumber etc?? (I previously had an R32 with leather seats (the same looking seats) and they had motorised lumber adjustment)
2. If the leather seats come with motorised lumber, mine are not working. I have checked the cable connections and fuses and all appears in order. Has anyone else experienced this ??

The electric seat heaters are working fine.

Any help, assistance or direction on where to look is appreciated.

The lumbar motor has a very fragile plastic drive wheel. It can strip out if loaded when doing the adjustment.

neither of the seats work, if the motor / gear was stripped could you still hear the motor ??

Also i cannot remember what all the controls are for ?? up, down, forward, back ??

The controls are up/down forward/back as stated. There is a worm drive and cog that stripped on mine. Replaced under warranty but it involves auto trimmer unpicking and re sowing the back of the seat.

Hi Everyone,

I've had my MK6 Golf R for about 12 months now and I'm seeing it as a long term investment that I'd like to to upgrade and make more comfortable. The car came with fabric seats but they're getting a bit tatty so I'd like to make the change to leather. The recaros look pretty pricey so I'm after the normal ones.

The leather seats that I've seen for sale are heated, so my question is can I install heated seats into a car that wasn't sold with that feature. There's no button / dial on the console for heated seats so I'm curious to know how the process would work, if it's possible.

If it's not possible, then I suppose my two follow up questions are:

1. Would it even be worth making the change, and;
2. Would there be a market interest to buy second hand fabric seats

It is possible to retrofit the heated seats.
Wouldn't be a cheap exercise I wouldn't imagine but certainly not technically too difficult.

This is for the Mk5 Golf so the pinout to the CECM will not apply (there should be info on connection to the newer BCM somewhere but I haven't looked)

There may be a small market for your cloth seats for someone wanting to spruce up a lower model Mk5 or Mk6 particularly at the right price...
