FWIW purchased my 118TSI DSG in June and it definitely downshifts downhill in cruise. It did this from day 1, done 1500km now
It's better than not downshifting, but engine size/compression isn't enough to hold speed on many hills

Now what i would really like to see is the ECU dabbing the brakes in cruise, to actually hold speed within 1-2kph of desired, even on steepest hills and all while keeping cruise active.

I suspect one reason this is not on VW must-do list is very few countries are so draconian on speed limit policing tolerances as here in Australia. Visiting UK and US you won't get booked for just a few k's over (and strangely not everyone who does dies either - amazing!). Going even 10 - 15kph over in most countries won't even raise an eyebrow. In SA, as of 1 September, that's now 3 points and hundreds of dollars ... so for us we really need the cruise to keep us within 3 kph of selected speed.

Another example of this problem being unique to Australia - I've recently started using Navigon app on my 'old' Galaxy S and I purchased the 'safety and Relaxation' package which displays the current speed zone limit and has verbal warnings of fixed cameras and when you exceed speed BUT only if you exceed by 10 kph - way too late!!! And there's no option to trim the tolerance to say 3 kph. But then again it was much cheaper than a dedicated Navigation unit

Note Navigon is a Garmin product, Garmin and VW are both German companies - if only they would work together to help us out here, "bitte"!

There is a free iPhone app that works great for speed monitoring, and it is free. It is called Speedalert Live. With this app, you tell it how many KMh over the limit you want the alarm to go off.

    DSG Clutch Shudder...
Finally put my 2010 Golf 77TSI in for the major clutch job (DSG). VW Tweed Heads were very good and finished it in 2 days, hardly driven the car as yet and the shudder use to only appear when the car is hot and usually stop and start driving. They replaced the clutch pack part no VW0AM198140C REP KIT - thank god still under warranty. No mention of a shim being replaced as previously discussed!
I couldn't get an answer from VW if the clutch components were superseded, just hope they're not the same old clutch materials. Only time will tell.
    Artie.

Has anyone had their clutches replaced outside of 3 year warranty yet?
Mine has expired but clutches were replaced only 11 months ago and are shuddering again. I understand that there is supposed to be a 2 year warranty on parts but will I have to pay for labour?

I got the extended warranty for this exact reason. You could argue that they failed to fix the problem that was reported during the warranty period - hence they should cover all the costs to actually fix the issue.

You can also point out that all they did was replace a faulty mechanism, with another faulty mechanism - you can hardly call that a solution..

But yes, please do let us know how you go.

Hi guys, I've got a 2010 Golf R 6spd DSG and only had it 2mths and mine has clutch shuddered about 6 times now, not quite consistent enough to show to a VW mech yet. I too am starting to get concerned coz mine doesn't have much warranty left either.

Has anyone worked out ways to make car shudder? That is, exactly what conditions increase chance of shudder? I'm hoping to demonstrate shudder to a mech soon. From what I've read sofar, car needs to be at full running temp ie 30-45 mins driving, then usually a start stop between 1st & 2nd gears in 'D'? And a load or hill can increase chance? Mine usually occur when accelerating out of a cnr from slow speed.

I read that most posts in here are related to the 7spd DSG. Has anyone heard of much problems in their GTI or R?

Of the owners in WA who have had warranty work done on their dubs for faulty DSG shudders, have any VW Dealers been more or less supportive??? Any to avoid or recommend?

Sofar I've been frustrated with Vic Pk, ignoring my emails & phone msgs. :-/

Can't say I've heard of 6spd issues since it's a much older box. Best way to induce shuddering or jerkiness for me is to drive uphill in peak hour traffic. Often happens when you're following someone slower than the rest of traffic, i.e. the car is at biting point and doesn't know whether to gas up or clutch in partially because you don't know when the moron in front is going to start paying attention to the road

VW wangara have done all my warranty work and they are super supportive of it all even though I didn't buy the car there. The service girl there, Natasha, is fantastic to deal with and last time I was in she actually had some helping her out for a change so you should get results if you call them I think.

Also I had an oil consumption issue a few months back and the car got towed to ozzy park. Chatting to the service girls there, they said that replacing a clutch pack (I mentioned I had it done along with the water pump) was seen as a regular thing... So I assume they would handle it well too.
