    Hi All,

    I have a MY2012 118TSI with the 7speed DSG.

2 Mondays ago the speedometer passed 6000Klm (after 6 months) and as the shudder was getting worse (1st noticed at around 4000Klm), took the car to my dealer. They told me there was some sort of firmware campaign and they would do the upgrade that would sort the issue. About 1pm that day the dealer called me up to tell me they were now installing an 'uprated' clutch kit.

I picked up the car the next morning and the shudder was still evident - the dealer's service adviser told me that he could not notice it.

Yesterday as I was driving back along Lane Cove road the transmission started stalling at 'D2' on downhill stretches. You know that VW ad where ther a guy overtakes a semi? Well it did not even work for me - I was almost swept aside by another semi as I was no overtaking one in the left lane at 70Klm.

Nearing home I stopped off at the shops to get some bread - started the car up again and the transmission would not shift pastD2 so drove it home in 2nd gear.

Car was towed back to the dealer this morning and suitably hidden behind the building.

    Oh Why VW Why?

Went to my dealer on Thursday last week, was told there was a recall on the 77TSi and they did a software upgrade on the gearbox and added spacers to the turbo unit on top of the minor service.

The car is far more responsive on low speeds, especially moving off from a standing start where previously its rather laggy. Used to encounter no vehicle movement at very odd times with the gas pedal but haven't seen it occur again yet.

I have a Jetta manufactured in January this year. Picked up the car in April. It has the same 118tsi engine and 7 speed DSG as the golfs in this thread.

In manual mode as well as in sport mode I have noticed a slight "rattle" noise right at gear changes from 1 to 2 to 3 and back from 3 to 2 to 1. I have heard it as well in sport mode from 3 to 2. Performance doesn't seem to be affected but I'd like to know if this is the "normal" way this DSG works like my stealership sales rep told me.

I have a scirocco 1.4 tsi with dsg7 . Before i take it i search for problems and all guys with dsg7 have the same shudder problem ...
Now i have 7500 in 5 months No shudder no judder or something like this BUT a lot of noises at 1/2/3 which is NORMAL . You can hear all the gear changes . Also at rough road if it downshift from 3 to 2nd or from 2nd to 3rd it makes a lot of noises and again it is Normal . The only problem with this gearbox is the cluth and as i said now VW Have a new clutch pack .
    Why you have shudder??
Because you drive it a lot in town and in D Mode . If you notice when you are in D you must completely stop so to downshift in 1st gear . So if you are in a road and you see from far Red light you are braking , before you completely stop it is with 2nd gear , you are a step before completely stop and the light is green and you must go on and you are with 2-3km , 800 rpm and 2nd gear!!!! At this point clutch disk overheats and after many km is starting to slip and you have the shudder !
In this situtation downshift manual in first gear !!!! Dont leave it to almost start from stoped position with 2nd gear !
I drive it all the time in manual it is much better from D . And if you notice in manual mode you can upshift from 1st to 2nd bellow 1800rpms while in D Mode it will upshift at some situations at 1200rpms

VW Have inform all VW Dealers for the new clutch pack you can change it
    Sorry for my english !

Thanks. Your English is pretty good. I understood your post. I'm trying not to worry over my first car purchase so your post helps in that regard. I was just surprised the dsg made any noise at all considering VW makes it seem like it should be smooth and quiet.

I wasn't going to make a big stink with the dealer about it but I would like to have it noted by the dealer that I made mention of it just incase something else were to happen.

Congrats on the scirocco. Can't get those where I am.

I've been experiencing the same problem with my 118TSI since the last service. Since it's been driven very rarely it has only got 17,000km in just over 1.5years. It's been serviced on time but I have been getting the same problems as everyone else. I'll be taking the car into the dealer tommorow to have all the problems sorted out (mainly engine and transmission)

First problem is the shuddering in 2nd gear. As I read in the previous replies it does happen at low speeds, especially when turning a corner. I found the car wanted to jump into 2nd gear a bit too quickly, but has sometimes left me wondering why the car even needs a first gear. The shuddering reverberates through the whole cabin and is very evident in the rear right of the car. I read previously on some other vw forums there is such issue in those cars and has to do with the fuel rail rubbing up against the chasis <- **that was just a suggestion**. I can't confirm anything until this is fixed.

I have also exerienced transmission clicking between 1st and 2nd gear. The car is very awkward getting off the line and under normal/light acceleration it clicks very loudly into 2nd gear. However if I push the car more >20% TP, it will go into 2nd without any clicking (however mind you it's not great for fuel economy blasting off everywhere you go...) Also, the transmission has been seen to go 1st up to 2nd and back to 1st on the MFD display on a few rare ocassions.

Other than that, I have misifiring issues on start up (common with the 1.4TSI engine) and the diverter valve is making an extremely loud whistle sound when throttle is applied suddenly (e.g. in the ad where the guy goes around the slow moving semi). The car goes in tomorrow and I'll report back what happens from the dealer when I can.
