I made sure that the white GTi I've got arriving soon wasn't one of the Austral ones, I tracked the the VIN number, it arrived in Australia at the end of May. Thanks for the heads up Finance_Analyst
Agreed - I suppose the general public are not that well informed and are 'sucked in' by what the dealer say. For the sake of a couple of grand, why compromise on colour or spec?

No worries. Where did you end up buying from? I wouldn't go near Austral with a six foot pole - especially with their attitudes.... The tell tale sign for the 2011 build car as I am sure you are aware is the updated DSG knob.I made sure that the white GTi I've got arriving soon wasn't one of the Austral ones, I tracked the the VIN number, it arrived in Australia at the end of May. At least you got a 2011 car - for those who believe the rheteric about 'it's the compliance plate that counts etc and not build date', let me know what it feels like when your wallet is a few thousand dollars lighter

I gave Highway Auto a week to find me a car otherwise I said I'd go elsewhere and they found me the white manual 5 door interstate. I just emailed the dealer last night to find out an ETA so I should hear from them today.
Picked up my car yesterday from Austral.
Despite all the dislike on this forum for them, my dealings were more than acceptable.
Got the type, colour, options I wanted, at the price I wanted under the free drive away deal.
Previous to this the best price I could manage was $1000's off what I got under the sale.
Having said that, I didn't really push the issue prior as I was away for easter and busy around the time. It just happened that the day I was ready to buy a car was the day the sale started.
I could not fault the car on pickup, so hopefully it is all fine.
Few little issues with getting used to DSG, but I think this is more running in as it improved over the first 50km or so.
I did manage to get MDI for free as they didn't notice the option when they sold it to me. This I was disappointed with as I actually wanted the storage space, but given my current car just has crap in the centre console, it's probably a good thing I didn't get the normal one

Picked up my car today! Delivered on time, and to the month that I expected. In fact - to the week that was said. The 6 month wait was worth it. Initial impressions are great (as was expected). I forgot how much technology the Golf R has. In fact, I had forgotten a lot about the car - so tonight was like a new experience again.
My first impressions are...
1. Bi-Xenon headlights - love them.
2. The Adaptive Chassis Control (for me) has 3 settings. Soft, Softer, Softest. This is coming from someone who's previous car had Whiteline coilovers in it, and a ton of upgraded bushes and other suspension bits. Don't get me wrong though - the ACC and the smooth ride is most welcome. Bouncing over every pebble in the road was starting to get old.
3. The technology - I LOVE IT. Everything about the car. It's like going from an etch-a-sketch to an iPad 2.
4. DSG - so far so good, and I drove it home in manual mode.
I've got to put a few thousand kilometers on it, run the engine in properly - then I'm going to look at doing an ECU tune. Good times ahead!
My car: MY18 Arteon
My car #2: MY22 Volvo XC40 Pure Electric
Her car: MY22 Skoda Octavia Limited Edition Wagon
Congratulations on the new arrival. Keep us updated on the ECU tune as I'd be interested to see who you use in Brisbane.
