I think you are right.. my sense is that 3 drs have street cred for some reason and as you get older street cred is not on the options list when selecting a car.

Anyway off to pick up the R today.. 10 am can't come fast enough, though I have 3 different contracts with different prices on them so I am not looking forward to the discussions come cheque time.. anywayI am sure it will sort it self out and be forgotten quickly

I also play golf and often have 2 sets of clubs in the car, easy access to the back seat, including folding the rear seat easily was a big factor. Especially now I have put a sub in the cargo area, the back seat is now the primary carrying area for clubs.

It's mostly an old age thing
Same here, I bought a 5 door. No kids, don't play golf, in fact the rear doors on my current car might get opened a handful of times a year.
Main reasons are when I do have passengers, they can get in without having to dive over a seat, but the main reason is at resale time I am not limiting my market. Too me people who own a 3 door, could live with a 5 door (may not like it, but can live with it), but most of those with a 5 door just couldn't live with a 3 door. My neighbour for example has a Golf, and she has two child seats in the back. There is no way she could get away with a 3 door and having to strap in kids.

thats why you have an option i guess, its all up to personal preference and the persons circumstances.

for me - i think the 3dr variant looks a tad more appealing and gives it that added bit of sportiness. i rarely ever have a full car so on the odd occasion where i do have more passengers im sure it wont be too hard to fold down the front seats afterall im buying the car for my enjoyment, not the passengers

No arguements here, I was only asking a question, then stating a fact. If I bought a Lotus my back would be stuffed in 2 secs flat LOL.

Golf is the winner out of the pocket rockets for me.

I'm the same...had a 3 door audi before. Never really use the rear doors in the GTI but just easy with the passengers.

Well the day has finally come and my Blue streak has arrived, never remembered buying a car to be so stressful yet so exciting all at the same time.. mind you I am getting on so that could be the mix. As many have said before it is great when you get it, just so well put together. I was looking forward to the sound of the exhaust note and that push into the seat on rapid acceleration but I found it was all the little things that have made me smile the most.

The tech is this thing is just great, I run through my mind reading everyone's comments thinking have I done the right thing, should have I just gone and got and XR6T for the thrill factor.. but the devil in the car is in its details..

I think it is going to be a great relationship
