Yes, you should be getting your dealer to sort it out for you
If they are not providing the desired outcome, then call your local consumer rights group...
How did you even drive the car home unregistered anyway? Something strange happpening there.
Ok this is totally screwed...
QLD Department of Transport has no record of my VIN #
VW Australia has no record of my VIN #
So I have a $56,000 car sitting in my drive way that I can't register, drive or insure because it doesn't exist ...
I don't know what to do anymore, almost at the stage of asking the dealer ship to come pick up the car and give me a full refund and let someone else sort this crap out...
VIN # Tracking of my car is as follows..

Corey - Dealer dropped it off here and used Dealer Plates, told me there was a slight hick up with the Rego which would be sorted later that day (That was Monday 28/03/2011) - They have still been trying to sort it out since then.
AdamD - VIN # on my invoice matches the number under the glass, which matches the number in the door hinge etc.. Everything matches up.

Gregar, mate that sounds very fishy.
Can I ask which dealer?
If you paid dealer for the onroad costs, they must sought this out for you.

Yeah... I personally wouldn't have handed over the money or accepted delivery until that "hickup" which was obviously so serious they couldn't even register the car was fixed... I'm sure that the issue is just a clerical issue somewhere up the chain, but it was not morally right for the dealer to have done what they've done....
Would rather keep them nameless at the moment unitl VW Australia get back to me on what's totally going on as they are also calling the dealer to find out what the issue is, as the dealer is saying it isn't there fault and something has gone wrong in the paper work from when it was released to them - If that proves to be incorrect I will be more then happy to tell everyone who they are and not to deal with them - Yes I've paid full onroads - rego - etc... People out there might be thinking bugger it just drive - No insurance - No Rego = no third party - If I get into an accident and someone gets hurt = I get into some serious problems.
Hind site is always a good thing - If I had known this was going to happen I would have left it sitting with the dealer...

Well, yes, how can they deliver a car without plates?
good luck with it.

Yeah, I'm not sure this situation as the dealers fault as such. Don't get me wrong, I don't think they should have delivered it to you and taken your money until the situation was sorted out, but then, you may have urged them to deliver it to you rather than defer it....
But the car has the compliance plate in the boot right?
That's installed in Australia at the compliance centre. Volkswage Group Australia are also who places the orders with the factory etc. So there has to be record of this car by at least both of those companies.
The question is, who sends the notification to the regstration authority? Is it the importer or the compliance company? I have a feeling that it may be the compliance company, because they are the people to view the car and modify and verify its compliance to Australian ADR's and then stamp the car (via the plate) that it is roadworthy etc. Volkswagen Group Australia never ever see the car etc.
This is just speculation though - maybe one of our friendly dealers can let us know?
Check it has a compliance plate in the boot (in the spare tyre well, have to remove the foam to access it).
If it does have that sounds like you are stuck in a SNAFU situation which should rectify itself with a bit of legwork. If not, start raising hell.
