Well.
Gratification finally.
After six months and still no sign of a build date, I went to dealer Saturday to get some answers.
Customer care Manager stated that would probably be well into second half of year for delivery.
So that would be over 12 months from order date.
Frack!
Wasn't happy.
So did the only other thing possible and rang around other dealers.
Short of it is that I have picked up a similar spec car from another dealer.
It is a cancelled order and I am picking it up on Friday 11.00am.
They also have 4 other cars I could have chosen.
Guys, be very cautious believing what dealers are saying in regards to delivery ETA's.
Insist on evidence that build slots are confirmed. Ie Nadcon screen prints.
After speaking with just two dealers I had a choice of 6 vehicles - 3 or 5 door, acc or no.

Good luck all those waiting, I feel for you.
I haven't stopped smiling since being told of my Friday delivery.
My wife thinks I'm CRAZY!

Well... you can't demand to see a build date if one hasn't been allocated, but yeah - after 6 months of waiting, that does sound.... sussssss

Anyway - this is great news that you've found a similar spec in stock! You'll have to update your sig now! Congrats

Your right about the screen shot.
That's why I suggest that IF you have been told that it will be delivered in a particular month ask for a screen shot to see if a build date has been granted.
I was being told in December that delivery was pushed back to April, when in actuality they had no idea when it could arrive as no slot had been granted yet.

Just don't believe their BS.

Anyway, I am just so angry, especially as I know so many others are in similar situations.

All good, now I can cancel my weekly anger management sessions.

all you guys that are blaming your dealers have got it all wrong! blame vw hq and the factories!

they have control over stock allocations and build dates. if ur dealer has no info, its not their fault. they can only provide estimates. the supply shortages/delays is a worldwide problem not just in aust!

for example, ray ordered his R 3 weeks before i ordered my gti, and i have been given a build date and he hasnt! not the dealers fault. its like a lottery at the factory lol

I agree to a point.

The consumers don't have a direct relationship with VW HQ. The dealers are the sales/servicing channel and are agents of VW. In fact, the sales contract is with a specific dealer. So, first port of call for any issues is with the dealer. If you get no satisfaction, you can contact VW AU/HQ to intervene.

Hi Willy, silver 18's, i have a MPS currently and I HATE the firm ride.
So I vowed that whatever I got next was going to be reeeeeeeaaaaaaaaly comfortable, hence the 18's and ACC.
I also will probably change the rims down the track to something more unique, I love gloss black with red highlights. Which I think will go well with the grey, but black alone doesn't do it for me personally.
only difference to original order is grey instead of Blue,no Sunroof, which I can live without, and Bluetooth over MDI, which is ok also as I can connect i Phone to system through bluetooth OR just load up a memory stick and use that.
So was a very easy decision in the end. Hmmmm wait another 6 months or have the car this week, let me think about that for .000001 seconds.

End of day though you will get good dealers that are more than happy to answer any of your questions and keep you updated along the way. Just remember though you wouldnt be there only customer they are dealing with so consideration when your email or phone message doesnt get responded to right away it isnt the end of the world. Any good dealer after month should be able to confirm with you that they have lodged your order with VW, after that its really out of their hands.

In saying that you are always going to get horrible dealers that dont give a damn, and thanks to the internet we can name and shame them.

I pick up my GTI tomorrow and will be the first new car I have ever bought, I only went to my particuler dealer because of the same level of service they show their customers whether its a 15k car like my mum bought or something thats more expensive. I can honestly say that the service ive received has been near flawless ... even in the face of pickyness.

Quick note though. It would always be a good idea to have your dealer look up to see whats coming in the country in the forthcoming weeks to see whats unallocated and whats specs they might have and tailor up a package from there. You will probably get your car quicker. Just an idea anyway
