Just received THE CALL. She's ready to picked up. Going to make the drive from Central Coast down to Sydney in the old Civic for the last time on Friday morning as I'm trading her in. I shall miss her. Not a single problem in 10 years, despite the abuse. Will be a nice drive back up the F3 with a possible deviation or three.

Yeah... worst thing you can do whilst breaking in your car is driving it on a free way. Old Pacific Highway is a much better idea

Yeah was thinking about taking the Pac Highway. It's a nice drive for sure.. except for the idiots doing ridiculous speeds on motorbikes.

Is freeway driving really that bad for a new car though? I don't much buy into overly babying the car during break in. I mean I'm not gonna flog the guts out of it but I'm sure not going to drive like my granddad in his Camry either.

You're correct, you shouldn't baby a new car. Make sure it's warmed up properly, then drive "normally". However, during the "break in period", you should ensure that you're varying the revs AND loads of the engine. Hence why some of the hard-core people here (WJ for example) seek out twisty mountain roads. The "flat and straight" roads of a freeway means constant speed and makes it very difficult to vary the load of a car without causing a menace to everyone around you.

Ah gotcha. No shortage of twisty mountain roads in my area... this car is going to be fun.
