I know this as it got delivered to the dealer on thursday at 11am. I called in after work to check it over - it had 20km on it . I picked it up at lunch time on the friday with 24. its about 2km to the servo to get it fueled.
In the "old" days dealers were permitted to wind back the speedo - this is now against the law. The kms on the car is from shuffeling the cars from factory fllor to train, off train to wharf, from wharf to ship, ship to wharf, wharf onto truck, off truck to dealership, movement around dealership, if it has aftercare it goes to the after care provider (eg. tint), back to dealer, off to the wash bay, refill at petrol station &voila - onto the show room.
VW is looking into individual delivery by helicopter to customer to keep kms under 10kms - NOT...

ARound 20 kms is very good, betwen 40 - 60 acceptable, above 100 it has been used for a few tes drives around the block...

I finally picked up my new Golf! I've only done 20kms but what a beautiful car to drive. The dynaudio system is just awesome for a factory fitted sound system! Plenty loud enough and with time they will only sound better. So glad I ticked that option. Only 2 minor things I'm not happy with, while driving straight the steering wheel is RH down and i already have rattle around the center of dash that i need to find out where its coming from. Very happy with the hand over and the presentation of the car.

Wow, my car, delivered 2 weeks back, so most likely same bulid week, has the exact same problem, maybe 3 or 4 degree off the the right!, most likely a wheel alignment problem, have the car booked in next week to be looked at, but not going to be happy if they say " well you done 800k, so its wear and tear, so 100 bucks please"

    Cheers S...

When I picked up my Mk5 in 2005, it had 0 kms on the odometer - the best I'd ever gotten before on a new car was 7kms so I asked the dealer what was up. He told me that provided that the car had done less than 100 delivery kms then they were permitted to reset the odometer which the VW computer only allows you to do it once. Truth or fiction?

It may be the case that the car ordered for HY001 was one with normal wheels & they are doing a "wheel swap". Not uncommon as it sometimes enables the dealer to find a car faster for the client.
Hi phantomcamel! You are correct. Dealer is doing a 'wheel swap' so I could get it before June 30 (EOFY Sale) however the only issue is that nobody is giving up there Detroits!

I believe they took delivery of the car this week.. Hope they are not using for 'test drives'. I can hear her calling my name. Fingers crossed this week!

True. You could reset it by pushing certain buttons (but I cannot remember what they are now) - I didn't bother as my Mk5 GTI had only 8 klm on it when I picked it up. I do remember there was a limit to the number of times it could be done - once or maybe twice.
