Someone else had a car on the Asian Dynasty in SA and was told late June delivery - hopefully you'll be getting it about 2 weeks earlier!
My 118TSI was on the Asian Dynasty and was dropped off at Port Kembla on 2nd June. Dealer quoted me a delivery date of 20 June some time back. Maybe I will get it earlier, but I guess there are lots of variables that determine how long everything takes.

After 7 months and 1 week of waiting, I picked up my GTI on Monday!

The weather's not been exactly conducive to photos, but I managed to snap a few yesterday.

(The front shots show my Lakin numberplate bracket. I'm thinking of having this changed to a smaller bracket that does away with the stock plastic adapter.)

In hindsight I probably should have optioned ACC, as the ride is firm even on the 17s, and if I upgrade to a set of 18s at some stage it might get that little bit too bumpy over rough roads for my liking. In every other respect it's fantastic - I don't even mind the Denvers.

The Dynaudio upgrade was well worth the money in my opinion - I'd not previously heard it in a GTI, and the improvement in the mids and highs over a stock setup is significant. It's not particularly strong or detailed in the lower mid and bass frequencies - if your musical diet consists solely of R&B you may want to consider a sub - but I suspect it'll open up once run in. As it is, I'm more than satisfied.

I'm absolutely loving the car - it is without a doubt the most fun and engaging car I've owned, and the best liveable performance car I've ever driven.

That front VW plate holder sucks arse. I've been thinking about doing the small Lakin plate holder directly on the front bumper too (when I get my blue R anyway). Here is a very useful post from GTICam which shows how to remove the default plate holder and how to cover and plug the holes that it removes. The little plastic caps which hold the plate holder can be put straight back into the bumper to cover the holes. I figure that some touch up paint applied to the plugs will make them look like additional parking sensors and/or make them hard to see anyway.

No, the ACC is still a good idea. If not for the ability to 'firm up the ride', but for the ability to 'soften up the ride'!! You'll especially appreciate the ability to use the comfort setting if you do decide to go for the 18's.

Btw, if you like the look of the Detroits with their black detailing, you can simply take your Denvers to any competend body shop and get them to paint the interior and "spoke sides" black. The Detroits actually have a machined face in addition to the black painted interior and spoke sides, but the difference betwen that and the silver painted face of the Denvers is pretty minimal. Other forum members have managed to have this done (as well as "gutter rash" repaired at the same time) on their Denvers for as low as $600. Since the Denvers and Detroits are also the same width and offset, to most untrained eyes, people will assume you have the Detroits

Agreed 100%. Philip from Lakin has suggested to me another custom bracket to replace the adapter, that fits into the holes in the bumper and is otherwise the same height as my slimline plates, but just a little wider. I'm very tempted to go this route because I don't like the idea of drilling additional holes in my bumper. But we'll see - I'm told another member of these forums is planning the above and is having a bracket made up now, so hopefully he/she will post photos when they fit it and we can all have a gawk.

Under normal circumstances I'd just get the full-sized Euro plates, but I like my current number (had it since my first car in '97), and the SA government shouldn't be encouraged to charge $150 p/a for euro plates.

Very true. I'll deal fine without it, but for anyone ordering their GTI or R who enjoys a less jiggly ride day to day, the $1500 ACC is an absolute no-brainer. Tick that option people!

I've seen the photos on this forum, and that's not a bad idea at all. One of many options... I'm also contemplating a set of Omanyts (18" R32), because I do like the OEM look, but I'll take my time deciding. No rush - this car is awesome right now.

Time for your R order coreying!

I think my car was on the same boat, dealer told me it arrived in melb on 31/5. I asked him yesterday when I can take delivery but he still won't give me a firm date and just says around the middle of the month! What dealer did you get yours from? Mine is Berwick VW.

Excellent shots Adam. I saw a red GTI on Sunday being taken to the petrol station on Richmond Road - still had the white protection on roof and sides - coming from Solitaire servicing at Mile End no doubt. Check your front tyres (just in case it was yours getting ready to go to Nailsworth) as he lit it up getting across the lanes - only joking (he actually drove it very sedately).

Nothing wrong with the Denvers - I had them on my MarkV for 4 years and apart from the scratches I put on them really liked them - I do prefer my Detroits on the Mark VI though. Everyone said how firm the ride is on the 18's, but I find with the ACC doesn't matter what setting it is not too stiff and the wife hasn't complained yet when I have had it is sports - good for going quickly but smoothly over speed humps.

I think the weatherman hears my sensors going off when I exit my garage and immediately hits the "rain now" button and the "make sure the car gets dirty after effect" as well.

Mine was detailed and delivered to Medindie on Friday apparently, so it's unlikely that was mine, although I did see another red GTI at my dealership on Monday, complete with the protection gear. Apparently there were a very large number of GTI special orders that came in on your ship and mine - we were lucky to get ours so soon!

I agree re the Denvers - I find them inoffensive, and while they're nothing overly special, they're a signature style for the GTI and do the job. The Detroits certainly have greater visual impact.

I'll have to talk someone into taking me for a ride in their ACC-equipped GTI one day so I can compare the ride quality, just for interest's sake. It might sound from my post above as if I'm not happy with the ride in my car, but that's not the case. It's just noticeably firmer than my previous Honda Accord Euro.

My car has been hiding in the garage all day today, and will continue to do so until the weather improves!
