Im only suggesting it cause you are going all out on a GTI, you really might as well get an R.

    A DSG R with;
    -ACC
    -Leather
    -Dynaudio
    -Sunroof
    -MDI

Could be had for $58K. Then you can be safer in the wet and have the nicer car. Win win.

The full tank of is petrol is normally included everywhere for all types of car. The tints cost about $200 so do it elsewhere if its not negotiated that way.

Best advice I can give you.

    Good luck!
REXman... My 2 cents worth around your comment...

It all depends what a person value's mate. Your comment may apply to you but not everyone else.

In my world -- Have ordered a fully decked out GTI (see my spec on my signature). An R will only reduce the 10k increase by approximately 3k by removing Xenons, 18's, Dark Tints. The total cost will then bump you up over luxury car tax which will then cancels out the 3k.

What do i value over the R - Bigger boot, GTI Badge, Jacky cloth and red stitching (coolest interior), Quicker and more flexible around city streets. Less fuel consumption meaning overall lower running costs.

And the GTI is safe in the wet... nice try though : )

Hey the R is cool... don't get me wrong. Was sitting behind one last night. Its not for everyone though.

... not to mention the difference in waiting times!!!

I need the car to write off tax... I wanted an R, but couldn't wait that long into the next FY, plus the LCT implications of the higher price means the GTI is the car I can fully write down (when including the options I want!).

Not very sexy reasons for choosing a car, I know... but this is the reality for some of us!

    Hey Guys and Girls,
    One very happy Vdub owner
Ordered and placed deposit on Candy White MkVI Golf GTI Adidas on Sunday 10th April 2011. Picked up car from dealer on Saturday 16th April 2011. Purchased from Paul Wakeling Motors in Campbelltown. Excellent, quick service, they gave me a great deal for a very sought after GTI. I believe there are only a very small number of GTi Adidas left in NSW (most of them RED). I got a good trade on my Peugeot 206 GTI 180. The Golf is everything I imagined and more. Very happy I am sooo happy that I could not get out of the car the enitire weekend. Picked up on Saturday and drove out of dealership at 12pm with 26kms, parked car in the garage last night with 400kms on it...!! Brings a smile to your face every time you plant your foot in sports mode!

I agree.. go test drive both and you will come to the conclusion I did.. a coin toss on a fully loaded GTI or a low spec R by looking at it and readin about it.. but a drive will sort the doubts out

Yeah no worries no offense taken. But the OP was just after opinions, and I gave him mine which I see as completely logical. If you have made your mind up otherwise, just let him know!

But valuing the GTI badge as a pro over the R's badge is a bit of a stretch and probably would not agree with everyone really?

I just see it a simple case. Im saying it is like saying you should just get a 330CI instead of a fully loaded 325CI.. Not for everyone - but I would definitely take the 330CI everytime.

I really dont understand how you can see it any other way.

As for tax implications and bla bla bla.. The guy is just asking about buying a car.. if he has some side issues - let him mention them and we'll discuss it further.

To the OP - Definitely go for whichever one you can afford mate, but it sounds like you can afford either!

And I stand buy my comments, a better car will always a) be nicer to own b) be worth more later down the track. Everytime.

    cheers

@REXMan - everyone has a right to their own opinion hehe, i personally prefer the styling of the GTI front to that of the R's. The only real draw-card of the R in my view is the AWD. Saying that, if I had the money to go that next bracket up i too probably would have bought the R. considering the options i wanted it was too much of price hike.
