Just back from the dealer... in the end I ordered the following;
MY11.5 GTI
5dr
Candy White
DSG
ACC
18" Detroit
MDI
Premium BT
Sunroof
RVC
Window tint all round...
$48,500 which is 11.98% discount off retail.
Its mine, in stock and now assigned to the dealer so barring in major issues its going to be mine.
He did just offer me an in stock Adidas in red with all of the above plus satnav and xenons for $52500 but I cannot drive a car named after a shoe at my age... too many bad memories of the Nissan Pulsar Rebok (which I would never own either) plus the seat are garish...
Collect a loan car this week and collect the car on Feb 16th. Couldn't get the red one as originally ordered, then couldn't get one with RVC which I really want on this car then had to consider after market reverse sensors which took the price to $47200 and in the end for an additional $1300 I get ACC and the camera integrated so wtf not. More money mo money....
Turns out to be the original spec I was after back in October last year. Funny that.

Hey kojarena, please read my post very carefully so that there is no confusion here.
Firstly in relation to the iPod MDI cable. There are multiple MDI cables, and the "standard one" for Australia has thus far been the USB version. However, some dealers are happy to take the USB one and supply you with the iPod one instead. You should clarify which cable that you will be receiving with your dealer - preferably in writing, even better, on the contract.
In relation to floor mats. All Golf GTI and R's come with floor mats. They do not have embroided logos. In the case of the GTI, they are black with black piping, and for the R they are black with grey piping. There are a dealer accessory mats for the GTI which have red piping and an embroided GTI logo. They are a few hundred $ and can be ordered from your dealer, but they are not the standard inclusion. If you are purchasing a GTI and wish to receive those, ensure that you have it specifically spelt out in the contract - i.e. "Red GTI embroided logo floor mats" (or even the accessory part number, which I believe is 1K2061271PBRYJ according to Maverick's site.
The reason you need to be specific and clear about this is that there have been cases, even with forum members, where they have asked for "The GTI floor mats", and the dealer has said "Sure, no problem" because the GTI comes with floor mats, and the dealer has not realised that what the customer actually wanted was the dealer accessory GTI floor mats which we discussed above.

thanks Corey - I have just written back to him asking for contract amendments to be made. He is adamant that 18" Detroits now come standard on MY11.5 vehicles but I have asked him to include that as a no cost line item in the update documents also. As you say it pays to be explicit now to avoid misunderstandings later.
Late update - he is insistent that Detroits come on the car as standard. I have tried the search function on this forum but cannot find the thread on MY11.5 upgrades. Can someone confirm the wheel situation and also the thread location please?

Hi there,
Probably a daft question. I'mm waiting 7 to 8 months for a new R. If the build year changes during that wait do you automatically get that new build? Ie. You always get the latest and greatest despite order date?
Told you it was a daft question.
Also is there a thread explaining what build weeks are what in the year?
cheers
LS
The Golf MY11.5 thread details the changes by Maverick. His site also has a better formatted list including pictures etc, plus the production start date weeks.
Whilst it's not an "official Volkswagen Group Australia" release, it certainly has enough detail and information we'd expect to see from one, and therefore probably is sourced from them.
It mentions nothing of Detroits now being standard, nor does the most recent brochure from the VW . com . au site.
Build week's are basically the "calendar weeks". It gets slightly confusing as the 1st of 2011 was a Saturday, and I"m also not sure what day of the week they count as "the start". But you can approximate what week is what just by looking at your calendar
As for what happens with your orders if the spec changes.
As you can see from the table in the link above here, they designate a particular product week where the model year's change over (it's different for each model year and each car model). So if you had a GTI in August last year, but it wasn't built until December last year - then you'll automatically get a MY11.5, as that started production from CW45 for the Golf.
Hope that makes sense.
