It's a shame that this happened, but I'm glad that it worked out in the end.
I agree totally that considering the cars were so close, and the inconvenience that had been caused, the inclusion of the sunroof for free was the least they could do! I also think that you've lucked out, as Carbon Grey Metallic is better than Deep Black Pearl!
It's interesting that the dealer said that the factory made this mistake. I find this hard to believe, considering the checks and rechecks which get done. Do you have the VIN number for the original car? (PM me if you do.) Because if so, you can put it into https://erwin.volkswagen.de/ and find out for sure who made the mistake. It will show you what options the factory installed into the car. If it really matches your car's spec, then the factory did just "forget to install the options". If it doesn't match your car, then I'd say that the dealer made a mistake in the options entry (it happens unfortunately, it's not as "straight forward" as you'd think!).
In any case, this is one of those reasons why we advise people to check the NADCON screenshots to doublecheck that the dealer has ordered the correct options, and then to check with https://erwin.volkswagen.de/ once you have the VIN number to ensure that the correct car has been built!
I am actually getting quite concerned with all the delays and unconfirmed build dates for those who have ordered GTI's way before November 2010. I'm going to be patient and wait until January before I start asking my dealer on whats going on.
I remember the promises VWA gave when they first launched the MK6 that they will make every effort to avoid the long wait times that MK5 owners had to bear, seems like it's not any different this time around.

It's Christmas guys!
Lets all calm down, enjoy the holidays, and see what happens late January. Many of you guys are just working each other up with your speculation.
NO ONE gets a build date within the first month. You're kidding yourselves thinking the is "something wrong" at this stage. Even if you don't have a build date for THREE MONTHS, you can still receive your car in 6 months. The build date is really only provided in the one or two weeks prior to the car entering production! This is what has just happened for all of us with the Golf R's that arrived in November (and 1st half of December). It was a 6 month wait, and we only found out the build date after about 3 months.
So calm down, steer clear of these threads and reduce your stress
The wait will be worth it.
I have to agree entirely.. patience will pay the best dividends. 3 months appears to be the norm for getting a build date and once that happens the machinery takes over. My March 1 date has supposedly pushed out but I have confidence that when the dust settles it wont be too bad. Rejoice you are in the system and for those just getting on the conveyer belt it is a longer wait.
Current Ride: MY 16 Daytona Pearl Grey Audi S3- Performance Pack 1, Sunroof and Driver assist
The longest wait is getting a manufacturing slot & shipping.
It only takes 2 weeks or so for the car to be built.
Chillout (we're all trying really hard here) and it will come. I've never been happier for 6 months to fly by!
