I'm not sure what ship my GTI is on but I saw a NADCON screen shot a couple of weeks ago and it said "Arrival at port of destination: 10/11/10" (today!) and "Arrival at final destination: 11/11/10" so hopefully it won't be too long till I get the call to go pick her up. It's been a long wait, I ordered in July.

Hey guys,
It's probably been covered here so apologies in advance (have looked).
Ordered white GTI DSG - no extras in Sept 10. Dealer advised I wouldn't receive my rig until Feb 11. Decided to go for a MY 11. Dealer advised they won't start manufacture until Jan 2011 (makes sense). Also advised I wont receive until May June 2011.
However looking through the posts it appears they start manufacturing MY 11 mid 2010 and MY 11.5 around now.
Am I being misled by my dealer or have I got it wrong. The wait I must say is agonising.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers.
Welcome to the forums GT EYE. I would say that it's simply a misunderstanding of what you're asking for and what the dealer is responding with.
You are correct that MY11 started mid-2010 and that MY11.5 has recently just started. However it sounds as though the dealer is thinking about "2011 build dates", which obviously only occur in 2011. I'd probably give them a call back and try and establish the difference between "Model Year" and "Build Date".
Good luck.
Thanks for the advice Corey_R, much appreciated.
Will give them a buzz tomorrow.
Cheers.
PS Great site. Have lost many an hour checking out the theads, advice etc.
Most car manufacturers release their "next" Model Year around July - September, so anything built from that date will be the model year number of the subsequent year number. Also, given the fact that you placed your order around September, chances are that you'll get an MY11.5 whether you like it or not due to the waiting list time for these hotly demanded cars. So you'll get MY11.5 but the "Build date could be 2010 or 2011 depending on the timing of when you get a slot in the production line. These days, the year that the car is made is largely irrelevent - it's the MY that counts (because that determines the "spec" of the car. In Australia though some people place emphasis on the year that the car was "Compliance plated" so a car that is MY11.5, built in (as an example) November 2010, arriving in Australia in December 2010 but by the time it gets through Australian Compliance in say January 2011 would be considered locally to be a "2011" vehicle.
But as I said earlier, the main emphasis these days is the Model Year.
As another example sometimes cars might be built say in February 2010 but maybe if they are not big sellers, they can sit around in holding yards (pre compliance) for months and months and then say they went through Compliance in January 2011, technically they can be sold as a "2011" car even though they may have been built in Feb 2010.
To always get the full picture, I always make a point of being aware of (a) The model year, (b) The date of manufacture and (c) The date of compliance.

MY might be important to you, but when it comes time to sell the car, and the dealers and car yards care about the build date (or compliance date for WA)...
But lets not get into that discussion which has taken place 500 times already. GT EYE's question has been answered.
Lol nothing wrong with talking about it everyday Lucky my wife is excited as I am about the new car and fell in love with my mates GTI. Its half the reason I was able to convince her that we should retire the serviceable but tired family taxi and lash out on an R!
YEah mate I'm a Cats supporter and I was pretty gutted about Gazza leaving but its exciting times again now with a new coach and some good young players coming through. Hope we can get some revenge next year on those bloody magpies lol!
Yeah I don't think we have any idea just how good it will be driving the R once we get hold of them. I certainly don't as I never even test drove one, just knew how good it would be from everything I read and saw about it and had no hesitation in ordering one! Bring the R on!
