I have an 09 Mk6 TDI with the dreaded ABS control unit failure. VW updated the ABS software as part of the service campaign a couple years ago and sure enough the unit has now failed so I've been driving around for months with no ABS, stability control or hill start assist. The quoted repair cost is heinous relative to the age and value of the car. I have two questions:
- Anyone else had the ABS issue arise and how did you resolve it? Did you just pay through the nose to sort it or did you successfully claim a goodwill repair through VW?
- Is there any use in trying to claim a goodwill repair through VW given the age and mileage of my car? I've never serviced it through a VW service centre in the time I've owned it but this is a known flaw and it's a safety issue so figured perhaps they might consider a goodwill repair from that point of view.

I would try them, no harm lost. They can be repaired still not cheap though. Put the part number into ebay and find PEC online. They have someone that does a repair job
