I have a NTS gearbox code and cannot source a replacement.
Can I use any coded gearbox for a 2012 1.6 tdi, or does it have to be the same code?
Short story, mechatronic failed and when I replaced it with a second hand unit and had it coded to the car, it now thumps along and will not find 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th gears.
I am hoping the mechanic did not damage it as it was driven about a K around the corner to another service centre before I towed it back home.
The gearbox code specifies the ratios in the box, as well as the software version on the mechatronics.
The mechatronics (of the same type and generation) themselves are all the same, they have different software on them tailored to the correct ratios and shift points etc for the car/gearbox combination.
Firstly the mechatronics needs to have the correct software version installed on it.
Secondly, it needs to have basic settings run which calibrates the mechatronics for all the tolerances within that specific gearbox.
So I would firstly have someone capable of doing so ensure that the 2 steps above are carried out successfully. And then test to check there are no faults logged.
Then if it's still faulty you can get a gen1 DQ200 mechatronics from any gearbox, flash it to the right version and then carry out basic settings.
If you swap a gearbox complete then you can just install it and run. If it's from a totally different sort of car (like a TSI Polo or something) the ratios are likely not going to ideal for a TDI but it's still going to run. You want to get a box from a car with a similar motor for best fit with the torque profile etc.
