I have a feeling there will be very limited discounts offered on readily-available cars. Demand is obviously much higher than supply, so dealers must be willing to bet customers will be prepared to pay close to RRP for immediate delivery. Hell, I did - and I'm happy to have been enjoying the car all this time. Buggered if I'd wait 7 - 8 months for a new car, especially when members in other threads are crowing about the MK7 being just around the corner. Honestly, discounts are all very well, but how much are they worth in real terms when all you have is a piece of paper?

Perhaps some dealers are bumping the discounted orders down the build order to get stock of ready-to-sell vehicles. Less wait time for a higher profit.

    Dermot,

Good on you for being honest ! I'm having dealers currently quote me late June for a complex build car, and guess what .... I don't believe it !

When does a VW dealer actually have to pay VWA for a car they have booked in.

Good question ...... It then poses the question, that if a dealer is behind in payment, either a cars aren't released or build orders being processed ?

What exactly is a "complex build" surely the production lines are tooled up for all the options, why does it take longer to build Manual then a DSG. This isn't an DB9 it's not handbuilt!
    Its here!

Problem is that some forum members are receiving good deals atm from stock in house or on its way on the boat.

Audi tell me that the only thing that tends to delay their vehicles build date is the optional sunroof. Delays arrival by about 1 month.

    Cheers.

I had a similar experience with another manufacturer. Ordered a RenaultSport Clio 197 with xenon headlights in August 08. Was told it would arrive in November.
After multiple delays, it got to February and I still didn't have it, so I cancelled it.

Worked out well in the end though, so happy with my 118TSI : D

Australia like the other countries is given build slots and dealers have stock orders in for fairly basic builds which are easy to sell. As the slots can fill up early complex orders often get pushed back and some slots may not be able to have some options due to changes in production etc.

More basic orders can often be on a ship coming out so the dealer can obtain them without having to wait for a special build hence why it takes longer to get special builds.

I'd imagine that most Aus stock would be 5 door, DSG and 18" Detriots ... that would cover 75% of the market. Next would be option pack of Leather, Sunroof and Sav Nat. Anything would be put into a specific time slot?

I guess if my contract has 30/4/2010 est delivery. They have 1 month to deliver, that is end of May 2010? Anymore than 1 month, and could you walk away?

    Cheers.

Why would you expect 18 inch detroits to be on 75% of the market cars?
Not sure that sat nav, sunroof and leather would be major combo either simply based on the cost (20% cost of base vehicle)
